  • will warranty cover..

ok coming up to 3 years and had a couple of little things on the car...

bought my car interstate.. haven't been to dealer in SA yet.. but was going to go for the next service and ask if they'll fix the following issues under warranty:

    1. some stitching on the leather on the passenger seat is coming underdone
    2. the silver covering on the DSG is lifting a little bit
    3. one of the foot lights on the back door came off (not sure if due to being hit by a kid)
    4. sometimes when i get into car the springs (?) seem to creak a bit, not sure if they can do anything about it.

anyone know if they'll cover these under warranty?

Its called Wear and Tear which is not normally covered 3 years??? How many K's???? How many kids????

Was it bought new???? Where on the seat is the stitching coming UNDONE (underdone???)

Does your passenger wear rough clothes, like Jeans with rear pocket zips etc

My ex Father inlaw used to drive with his hand on the gear lever all the time Ruined the gear lever cover and also created a rash on his hand from the constant vibration

Despite our "Opinons" Only the dealer would give a definite correct answer which after dealing with them I would say NO

I tend to agree. They may say it's wear and tear or simply misuse. I would suggest that any competant automotive upholsterer would be able to fix the stiching at not a great cost. The leather coverings do come off with just a little bit of work. Again, I would suggest that the silver cover on your gear selector could be fixed by the same person but it would just be glued down. The foot light and front end creaks could all be fixed by the dealer. They may charge you or may not. I would suggest be polite, Courteous with a little bit of zest in your tone. You catch more flies with honey than vinegar.

In regards to question 4, my car creaks if the park break isn't on hard enough. Just a thought.

ok thanks for the opinion, will book it in and see

i definitely think the stitching is defective - it is on the passenger seat (which has hardly been used - you can tell it has been used a lot less than the drivers seat).. no kids in the front seat there either

          i guess we'll see

thanks for the tip about the park break...

the chrome on the dsg lever you should get. stiching will be a no no unless you are very lucky. the door lamp/ reflector if its missing you wont as "missing" is not classed as warranty. and yeh the noise from the rear is usually the brake pad/ disc slightly moving or just the suspension twisting as weight is put into the car -no issues on that part..

netpenthe, you never know unless you try.

Make sure the car is sparkling clean so it looks like you care for it when you take it in. A lot will depend on what the relationship is between the dealership & VW/Skoda. Some dealers will grab every warranty job claim they can, because they get paid for the work without having to invent it, as some do.
The dealer isn't the maker. No skin off his nose to put a case to Skoda, who usually ask for a written opinion plus a photo or two. Dealer will probably just say NO thought if the car comes in looking like a cross between a McDonald's bin & the kids sandpit.

let us know how you go.
