Can anyone give some real world fuel consumption figures for a V6 Superb? I am still coming to terms with my car as it just wants me to use the right hand pedal I had what I consider excellent fuel consumption on the trip from Canberra to Wollongong but have been getting very erratic read outs around town. Going up Bulli Pass the computer say 40l/100Km and a tank is giving approx 480 Km - 560 Km. I would like to hear of best and worst so I can just be aware of where/when I need to plan fuel stops on trips. In my old Audi 1.8 turbo quattro I could obtain anywhere from 480 to 700 Km from a tank, then again it weighed less than 1400Kg and delivered 132Kw. Thanks.

That's quite normal. Every time you accelerate to increase speed, or just maintain speed over an incline, it's only natural for instantaneous fuel consumption to skyrocket (especially for a petrol engine, and especially one with six cylinders bolted to a heavy 1700+ kg chassis).

On a level surface on the highway, it should return to 8.0 l/100km or thereabouts (higher if your cruising speed is faster or is loaded up).

You say your average fuel consumption is 10.7 - 12.5 l/100km (60 litre tank), which I don't find particularly unusual in your circumstances. The official combined cycle figure is 10.4 l/100km. If you live in a hilly area, you're simply going to use more fuel. Physics, eh?

Just so you know, the official urban cycle figure is 14.6 l/100km, so it could be a lot worse - lucky you don't live in the Sydney metro area.

Thanks for the quick reply. If I lived in Sydney I wouldn't even consider a Superb, let alone a V6 Petrol engine. Even in my narrow one-way street it can be tricky getting in and out of my drive. Except for the hills getting out of Wollongong, I do have quick access to country roads. 2 sets of traffic lights between here and Canberra; that is 2 too many! I do intend to take the car up Macquarie Pass as soon as the maintenance on the road is done. I will compare the times and speeds (but not fuel consumption) with the Audi. Even senior citizens are entitled to their speed fix and with the pass it is all about smoothness and corner speed. And yes, I do ride motor bikes as well!

The 'erratic' readings are happening because you have the reading set on current consumption, which is variable in every car dependingon the current conditions, not average consumption. You will notice a number in the corner of the display which says 2, it should be on 1. Click it back to 1. Also you will get often a high initial consumption on average consumption setting when you start which then settles down after a few mins of driving.

I know the thread has originally been started for the V6 Superb, but I thought the title is generic enough to include the other models

Mine's the 2.0 TDI (125kW) Superb Elegance station wagon.

So far, with only 1,000 kms on the odometer, we're getting around 7.0-7.5L/100km (7.2 being usually the figure) Sydney city driving with the higher figure probably being due to the M5 parking lot.
What's really disappointing is the average speed, being 28km/h which goes to show just how bad the traffic is in Sydney.

We've taken it down on the highway once so far and while the trip wasn't long enough to get good readings, it seemed to hover around 3.0L/100km (instantaneous reading) on straight level road.

            Fuel consumption

I had my 125 TDI for 3 years and 85,000km. I averaged 6.34 litres per 100km over that time. A lot of freeway driving in there and a bit better that 28kmh average speed!!

I achieved 5.5L/km during the winter months when I didn't have to turn on the AC. Now it slowly gone up during summer to 5.8-5.9L/km.

Must admit, I have never worried about the fuel consumption for my car. Just drive and enjoy the damn thing

I agree and for most part I'm doing exactly that (maybe even enjoying it a tad too far as the speeding fine attests)

Still, I've tracked my old TS Astra's fuel consumption closely, I'll continue doing that on the Superb.

Btw, the Astra was averaging 11-12L/100km, so the Superb is... well, Superb in comparison.

Hey everyone, the Op asked about the V6 and people seem to be replying here with diesel figures. THey are just not at all similar and pretty misleading.

Albervin, i have a near new V6 wagon. Around town, in Canberra, I am getting about 10.4 l/100km and on the freeway to Canberra from Sydney or down to Wagga at 120kmh or country road driving at around 100km/h etc I average about 8.1-9 l/100kms. But it loves a drink when you push it. Around inner Sydney doing rat run stuff from Pennant Hills to Mascot it averaged 14.4 l/100kms. It may get better with age - it has only done 5,000kms. I hope it does because I would like to be able to use the performance more without causing it to drink like a shearer on paynight.

Butem I love the car and will forgive its drinking habits! Just miss the vRS' mix of performance with economy. You have to rember though that the V6 is a heavy car at 1777kilos and also AWD.

                    Cheers

                      Fuel consumption

The title of the thread is "Fuel Consumption", not "V6 Fuel Consumption". Perfectly legitimate to post "fuel consumption" figures of a Superb in a Superb thread.

                        Mine is a V6 sedan.
One country open road or motorway cruising at average 110kph, the car is surprisingly frugal at around 6-7 l/100k. On hillier twisting roads it blows out to around 10. If one wants set the DSG in sports mode & really get stuck into it, don't bother looking. The number will be frightening for the cost concerned.
In urban areas I'm able to average 12.4l/100k. I'm retired, so I'm not driving in peak hour city CBD traffic at all.
Overall, the consumption display indicates the car has averaged 9.1l/100k over its first 18000ks. That figure really reflects my mix is a lot more open road than city driving.
My observation is while the V6 is much more frugal on the open road than my previous XR8 & GT Fords, it is noticably hungrier than they were in the city. Particularly if you like to upset the odd SS holdon off the lights, courtesy of the better 4 motion traction.

Thanks. They are better figures than I am getting at the moment but not by much. I use "manual" mode mainly and haven't used "sport" more than once or twice. I am not sure how you can say the display is showing 9.1l/100k over 18,000 ks. Does that mean you have never re-set the computer?

No Albervin, I have had no need to reset the computer. I've owned it just on 9 months. The car still has less than 20k on the clock, 3 services by Skoda who haven't needed to reset it either. (Only thing other than fluid changes done was to change the Bolero display because of dead pixels.)
The life of car consumption reading has never been reset during service by Skoda. I find it very interesting, to see the effect on the LT consumption of long distance cruising. I reckon when I sell the car privately eventually, it will be immediately after a long county run; when the figure looks its most impressive. I'd hate to see the figure on a city only driven car.

Re: your comment on using manual mode a lot. I also prefer it a lot of the time. Sports Mode lingers in lower gears too long into the peak before changing. No wonder it consumes so much juice. Drive mode works fine in urban areas, but I find it tends to linger around 4th when the car is quite comfortable in 5th & so on with 6th. I never put the DSG in Drive & just leave it like an auto. A DSG is in essence a dual clutch manual with an electronic clutch. I always put the car in neutral when it stops. I've been a life long manual driver anyway. I made a comment some months ago about the same thing effecting consumption in urban use. Since then I've tended to do it manually most of the time, short shifting to higher gears earlier than the Drive program allows. I think it does make a difference.

I basically only signed up at this point to check out the real world fuel consumption as we are seriously considering a V6 Superb. The above is good news - we currently own a Vectra V6 in Canberra and get basically the same figures. It's difficult to compare the official combined cycle of the Vectra to the Superb since the standard seems to have changed in the early 2000s sometime.

The diesel is the far more practical solution but coming from NA manuals all my life it would be too much of a shift for me into a turbo diesel so V6 with flappy paddles it is.

Does anyone else have anything to add on V6 consumption - perhaps now that they'll have a few more k's onboard?
