I have an interesting experience to share with you all. I went for a drive on Saturday planning a weekend drive to Coonawarra and back with an overnight stop at a bed and breakfast.
From Canberra to Coonawarra there are three or four ways you can go that take from 993 to 1143km. I chose the quickest way possible distance wise and found myself on many back country Vic roads enjoying the lack of traffic.
Anyway, after spending 19hrs in the car i can categorically state that the Superb's interior is a very comfortable place to be on a long trip. I and two others shared the driving and I found that i was falling asleep easily and had stacks of room. I'm 6'2 and have never really done much long distance well in the back seat. So glad we took my car.
Over the trip the car returned 7.9lt per hundred going there and about 8.3 on way back due to extra hills and Melbourne outskirts traffic.
On sunday any Victorian knows it peeeed down quite heavily and I drove most of the way back in the wet weather holding the weather front for most of the way. This intense heavy rainfall made the roads pool, run, and generally very slippery where the 4wd and those grippy Continentals really made easy work of the conditions. Many occasions on the trip in the wet i needed to overtake as most of the 2wd cars where squirming on the wet roads.
The powerplant and driveline are a massive bonus, getting past poor drivers in average conditions in short overtaking areas is a breeze and I adore the sounds this car makes.
The Superb is now up to 11000klms and other than a minor oil top up its been faultless. ( light oil usage is typical of all VW engines )
Over all, its the longest trip I have driven and the longest single driving stint, I found it to be the most pleasurable driving experience yet and my two other mates also commented it was the best driving car they have experienced.
