I know this is an old thread but when I was looking for an AWD car to replace my Audi A4 quattro I became very confused ... Audi call all their AWD cars "quattro" but use 2 completely different drive trains without really telling anyone. Then I started looking at Subaru (not for long) as well as VW, Volvo and Skoda. Subaru lost out on interior trim and fit although the Liberty STi wagon was tempting to a point. The Volvo drove like a barge and had a turning circle larger than the roundabouts in Canberra. The Skoda finally won on price, equipment and finish. I am yet to "test" the AWD as the car is too new
but I once shredded 2 Michelin tyres on the Audi and never realised it until I stopped to admire the view at Bairds Bay in South Australia. Still got back to Streaky Bay OK which was more than you could have said for the Falcodore sport ute that ended up in deeeeep do do trying to keep up.
