Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Had to fly down to Melbourne for the day yesterday - 4 people, had roughly 200kms driving to do so ordered a 'premium full size' through Hertz - was expecting a Calais or similar and purposely picked that category to avoid the ubiquitous Camry with the underwhelming 4 cylinder that I hate even when it's just me in the car.

Turned up to Hertz and picked this up:

Best rental car I've had (even better than the 3 Series upgrade a few years back). So, it seems Skoda is back to supplying some rental cars, I've seen a couple of Superbs and Octavias (all wagons) getting around Sydney which are clearly rentals.

Nice... I remember I used to get Passat wagon from Europcar all the time.

I rent a lot from Hertz, they now have many Skodas in the fleet. I had a chat with one of their staff and apparently they are loving them. I routinely get “upgraded” into a larger car and now wish they’d leave me in an Octavia!

Has anyone had any experience of purchasing an ex-rental Skoda? how have they held up to the abuse of being rented?

I read an article not long ago, it was confirmed by the Australian GM for Skoda Australia that they are trying to get out of the "Fleet" market as they want to retain better overall resell value for the brand.

I’ve driven a Skoda Superb on a trip once, and it’s an underrated gem—spacious, smooth, and really comfortable for long drives. It’s great that rental companies are starting to offer these again, as they bring a bit more personality and quality compared to the usual fleet options like the Camry or Altima.

If you’re ever in South Florida and looking for something a bit more unique or premium, you might want to check out this Luxury Car Rental at Miami Airport (MIA) with RealCar Miami. They’ve got some interesting choices that make driving more of an experience than just getting from point A to B.
