  • 2011 Octavia 1Z Sleeper?

    Hi all,

Don't know if I posted this in the right spot, maybe it should be moved into specialist area?

This is a pie in the sky kind of idea, but how possible would it be to put a VR5 with a turbo into a 2011 Octy 1Z (MK2 + facelft)?

If it would be possible, which other parts would need to be updated to 'cope' with the upgrade? It's a stock 1.8T Wagon with 7-speed DSG.

I am of course completely inexperienced in any of this. My thoughts are:

    2.3L VR5 + turbo
Guessing a custom ECU (would rock if stock Skoda/VW ECU would work)
    AWD drivetrain
    6DSG gearbox
    Brakes
Exhaust - I want twin pipes.
    Would suspension need modification?

Would like the in-car experience (ie all equipment functionality etc) to remain stock, ie no workarounds.

Should I forget the idea and get a pre-owned Superb Sportline in a couple of years?

    Cheers,

    tifkat

What's your budget? That would have to be engineered.

You'd be better off getting a Golf R drive train & fitting that... Or just tune the 1.8tsi... or swap in a VRS drivetrain and tune that.

Ultimately, it will be money spent for your own pleasure 9you won't get it back on resale), so you are best to sell it and buy a better base to start from.

I agree. To do all that would cost more than what the car is currently worth. Better to sell the existing car and add the money that this idea would cost and buy something like a Golf R.

I think what you should ask is how deep are your pockets .. not whether it can be done.

With the price of these second hand just buy the vRS to be honest. They aren't that much at that age.

VR5 is from the Mk4 Golf chassis; if it was a Mk5 or Mk6 it'd be a helluvalot easier... Theoretically doable; but not worth it.
Golf R drivetrain; or even a Mk5 R32 drivetrain would be the way to go. That way you could get fuel tanks; rear subframes etc from the donor car.
2012 Octavia vRS TDI. Darkside big turbo, 3bar tune, other stuff. 200kW/650Nm.

Definitely - I've thought about the Octy sleeper idea too but I reckon I'll be happier in the long run with a second hand 206 with all paws next year or the year after.

Thats what I thought too; but the Superb's extra size and different setup cause it to be a completely different car. Much more of a luxury cruiser and you don't get any of the hot-hatch-ness that you do in a Fabia/Octavia, especially RS-models. A little sad if I'm honest.
That being said; I'm sure an AWD Superb with 400+ KW would be mental.

Yes. You're right as well. I've seen a you tube video of a Superb nudging 450 (pk) in the Netherlands not sure how that translates to BHP.

One day I'll make up my mind
