  • Octavia 2 MY12 118TSI M5 Aircon problem

Posted this generically and presumably not allowed so am reposting here.

Had our Octy into local Skoda here as aircon suspect. It blows 'coolish' air from driver's vent but warm on passenger one. Have searched and found similar (scary) problems but would welcome some advice.

Results were as follows: system gassed adequately; compressor produces 2 degs C into dash - compressor ok. Driver-side vent is 12 degs C; passenger-side 24 degs C. (Outside is @ 24 degs C) Condensation starting on passenger floor. So 'something' blocking vents inside dash.

Estimated cost: 4 hours to remove dash & replace=@ $540 (2 remove, 2 replace) & depending what is found @ worse-case $200 more. This seems reasonable compared to some of the threads found. Scary bit is that one thread spoke about some 'diverter-motor' $1500?

Thinking of doing the job myself but exploding airbags a bit of a worry.

Any comments would be welcome. Thanks.

Found this on RF site. What are names of vents - flap-function: found on workshop-site.

disconnect the battery before you remove any airbags and you'll be fine.

they are like a gun, they don't go off by themselves.

from memory you can access most of the motors under the dash without removing the skin. youll need to remove most of the lower-half of the dash, but its all covers and just need a torx screwdriver.

id also get someone with VCDS or OBD11 to scan the car and see exactly what errors are coming up, so you have an idea of what the problem is. if its a faulty motor, a 2nd hand one might be easy to obtain and replace.

      More data.

Thanks zei20t. It's getting more confusing since all data seems for LHD vehicles. No-one on Briskoda has answered me yet so I'll repost here:

Had aircon regassed today. Works well. There was 80 g R134 in it! 530 g put back+10cc oil+dye to check for leaks in a few weeks.

Dropped off at Skoda service and asked why with only 80 g of R134 in aircon it indicated the dash needed removal to remove "blockage?"

Initial answer was they didn't trust my choice of aircon place but when shown the actual record they asked to check the Octy.

I was allowed to view the VAGCOM data and it showed temperature sensor G262 was at 24 degs C when other temp sensors were showing correctly. (Might have cost > $700 to establish this without a regass!!)

Apparently VAG said the G262 is the RIGHT footwell temp sensor?? (Left vent was the fault.)

This is getting even more confusing. How does a right temp sensor affect the left vent? VAG must be correct since it identified G262, FROM THE VIN, at 24 degs C.
      Yet:
27 4B0820539 temperature sensor left, G 261, right, G 262 Online Skoda Octavia spare parts catalogue, Europe market, 2013 model year: body group, air conditioning subgroup, Skoda VIN decoder, aftermarket, etka online

Is my blower on RHS of vehicle? Is VAG limited to LHD vehicles diagnostically? Tomoz I am taking the glove-box out to see!

Both G262 (right - [on LHD?]) & G261 (left - [on LHD?]) are NTC thermistors (1k2 - 100k) that control L & R footwell flaps. So, how does a footwell duct affect the upper duct, especially when on the right and the left upper duct isn't working with low R134?

IMHO thermistors rarely fail, they are passive bits, so the flap motor would be suspect. If VAG had said G261 the problem it's more believable (if it's on the left?)
