Me again

I'm thinking about getting the RS in petrol if the economy is ok.

Can I get an idea of what people are getting out of their RS's.

I am interested in a mixture of driving patterns. Although we will be driving mostly regional 80-100 k zones with few stops on a daily basis, I am still keen to find out other peoples real world figures.

Averaging 8.2L/100 over the last 11,000km. Mix of driving and loads. Its still improving tho, and I expect 8.0L is acheivable.

Lowest one way average is on my drive to work in the morning (70km) where i can get as low as 6.9 for the trip.

Ours is 7.7 over the last 800 km's mostly city driving (wife driving!)

Long term average for ours is around 9.5l / 100km. Usually when caned around town it uses 9.5-10.5l / 100km (wife and I both like to accelerate briskly). On a 800km drive over the weekend with mostly highway driving, fully laden, & driving into some pretty strong winds, as well as flooring it to overtake people, I used 7.9l / 100km.

The wife & I certainly don't hold back, and fuel economy is not a concern for us, so I'd say the figures above are probably at the higher end compared to most.

Thats is very good, and this is with a new map too?? Your wife must have a very light foot Guy!

Went filling up i my trip meter usually flashed up 720km till empty, but I have yet to get more than 650km from a tank - not running it dry tho.

I'm happy, it is a quick and heavy car afterall...

well... i took it in this morning to get some issues sorted out and i asked for a copy of all my service records as im having a meeting with the dealer manager this afternoon.

Is there anyone out there who drives conservatively. I was hoping to convince the missus that the RS could do 7.5 ish l /100 with mostly rural driving.

I recon you could get down to 7.8 ish conservatively, any more and ud have to live in flatfille with no traffic lights or traffic

But if u need 7.5 to get it - step right up! 7.5 - no problems (disclamer : no up hill driving..)

I've got the 1.8T M6. 75% highway driving. According to the MFD I'm averaging 7.0L/100km. According to my figures I'm getting 7.3L/100km. On 2 separate occasions I've averaged 5.8L/100 on the MFD for a 50 & 120km run. The cars only got 2000km on it so I figure all this will improve. In theory the RS will only use about 10% more.

BTW: <6.0 is only realistic if you are cruising at 90-100kmh (GPS reading - speedo is 8% wrong). 100-110kmh is more like 7.0L/100km; 110-120kmh is like 7.5L/100km.

What other alternatives are there for vehicles with good interior room & cargo capacity, similar power characteristics, similar safety features, similar price that will use appreciably less fuel?

I do 25,000km a year. If use 1L/100km less fuel then I'll save a whole $400 in fuel (where's the "rolls eyes" smiley?).

Also, my SWMBO was dead against me buying the Skoda - now that she's driven it & has seen the quality of the interior, all the safety features, etc she's really happy I got it.

But SWMBO put the foot down and so we have ordered a Caddy Maxi Life.

Has the capacity and fuel economy. Sadly not the handling or interior, but there you go, it was the smart decision given our needs (three dogs, lots of push bikes) and plenty of kids and grand kids.

Still the MKIII should be out in a couple of years and then it's my turn.
