I didn't get to test drive the 169 at all - test drove the 162 back in May and was about to made a booking until I found out the MY18 169 will be arriving. No regrets about the 169 after all - the LED headlamps + rear lamps, DCC, alcantara seats and 9.2" infotainment are worth the additional $ outlay and waiting time for me.
Thanks for the info wingzee. My apologies if I sound like I'm interrorgating you, but the more you inform, the more curious I become.

When the dealer said ."..80% of the current stock or on orders are fully-optioned...", did he explain what he meant by "fully optioned" e.g Tech & Luxury Packs, DSG, roof, premium paints?

    Thanks & Cheers

No problems at all mate. Basically ticked all the option boxes - all the ones you listed + electric boot included.

I'd say you will be hard pressed to get a 24 hour test drive, I could be wrong but they aren't a common thing across dealerships these days.

My Skoda test drive was very relaxed and went for over one hour where I got to experience all types of driving conditions. Stop/start traffic, quiet streets, motorway, twisty bends etc. I was given a run through of all the awesome features of the car in real time plus detailed info on all the features and model specs.

From what I've researched the 245 doesn't have a huge amount of extras that would persuade me to wait for it besides a extra few kw that would be barely noticeable and black gloss alloys. Oh and I think the LSD is upgraded. Keep in mind of the price increase for this model too.

Good luck with your purchase, keep us updated [emoji846]

I wish we could give everyone a car to take home for the night, but we don't have enough cars!
You're more than welcome to ask any dealer for an extended test drive, though. I personally was out for three hours once! Did the M4, all kinds of weird and wonderful back street combinations, and some heavy traffic.

I went to Skoda Penrith and got a good deal (I think) on a moon white Hatchback RS169 optioned with everything but the sunroof (something I have never used in any of my cars so didn't want it) The vehicle was in stock. Deposit paid on Thursday and will take delivery Wednesday. They stated that they will price match. A bit of haggling and got it for $48k which I was happy with. They were prepared to let me have one overnight to seal the deal so I guess it depends on the dealer as to how good a test of the car you will get. Looking forward to giving it a bit of a workout on Wednesday

              Hey all,

Currently toying around with the idea of getting an RS Wagon, test drove one on the weekend and was quite happy with how it drove, felt and looked in person. I've just got to weigh up whether I REALLY want to trade in (or sell) my 86 Blackline for it, but in terms of practicality the RS wins in that department whilst still being a unique looking car with some balls.

Hope you don't mind me asking some newbie questions.
Just wondering if there's a website with a breakdown or if someone has any info regarding differences between the new 169 and 230RS (or is it a 245? I've seen this pop up online somewhere) ?
Also, just for clarification is the 162 basically just the older version of the new 169?

Whilst I'd rather not have to wait for a new car to come in (the wait would be a killer) it'd obviously be nice to get everything you wanted when you first buy the car. It seems at least in Perth there's not a lot going around that's on the floor. The one in Perth seemed to have a blue one that I saw, there may have been some more tucked away in the showroom but I didn't really have a good look.

Was told by the salesman that the 230 wasn't much different from the 169 or that its basically the same anyway, is this true or perhaps he just wasn't fussed in talking about these because they're not around etc? (seems they were limited but on carsales it's still advertised as new?)

From what I've seen on the Skoda website you can't 'build' a 230 and it only seems to allow you one of the 2 packs yet at the dealership the car I test drove was apparently fitted with both luxury and tech packs.

What's it like to get hold of modifications for these vehicles here in Aus?
              Main things I'd probably be concerned with to start with would be ;
-suspension or springs, would swapping these out affect the Comfort/Sport etc modes that you can set in the car?
-wheels, These would look good with some wide wheels on the back and some good flush fitment imo. Maybe some spacers in the interim on the 19's

Maybe down the track I'd look at exhausts/intakes as well.

                Hey Mate

So the 169 is replacing the 162. So its the same but with a facelift and some new tech, with the 230 motor (but without the VAQ diff found in the 230/245)
the 245 is replacing the 230 (all black and diff) with the same tech as the 169.
You'll get a cheap 230 now as its on 'run out', but the 230 was 6 speed manual only. 245 is meant to be coming is DSG...

The 'pack' names have been changed, so the dealer is full of @#$%.
230 comes stock with the 'black pack' (Black everywhere, Black 19s) and 'comfort pack' (leather, etc).
                And you pay for the
                - Tech pack (all the extra tech, keyless locking/push button start, lane assist, etc)
                - Auto boot (Wagon)
                - Sunroof
                - Heated seats.

Suspension: If you get the Active Dampers in the new Facelift, you might be ok as you can have it hard/soft when you want it to be.
Wheels: Lots of people have changed wheels to a 8in or more. *stock is 7.5in
Exhausts/Intakes: Lots of options for both, DYI to Pro, Cheap to limitless

I have a 230, and the only things I miss out on form the facelift is the bigger screen (9in), blind spot monitor, Active Dampers. Im tuned via a piggy back system and have more power than the 245.
If you like the new shape then wait, but if you want to save 10k or more, grab a 230! (remember manaul only tho)

Congrats on the purchase! That's a pretty good deal I reckon. Didn't realised there's a Skoda dealer in Penrith. I paid $51.2k for mine but that's wagon (which costs $1.5k more in the first place with pano roof $1.7k & electric boot $500).

You must be stoked since collection is just 2 days away.

Just fully ran in mine, now clocked 1.8k - covered a lot kms in just 3 weeks as I keep finding reasons to drive it. She's been superb!

Tks, Glad to hear that you are enjoying the car. I had never considered a Skoda but drove a brand new rental Superb in WA for 4,000k's plus recently and was impressed. Different car than the Octavia but it gave me a 'taste' Probably the wrong place to ask but have you looked at activating Traffic and/or speed signs?

Thanks for all the info and clarification there, appreciate it.
I do like the facelift, but also don't mind the pre-facelift (if this is what I'm going by?).
With the pre-facelift model, would 48k be high on these? Just going by what I'm seeing on carsales, and with the 245 when are people expecting these to be released?

From what I read also, the 230 has the LSD, does the new facelift 169 have this also if it's running the same gear as the prior 230 ?

I like black cars, I just don't know if it's worth doing again (I work next to a cement factory so get some dust when I park up during the day). I'd probably still go for it if there was limitation to what was available and I was dead keen to get a specific model.

                        Hey man,

Yea that link is the the pre facelift.

Not sure when 245 is coming, but Id say it will be over 50k!
The new facelift 169 does not have the LSD, the 245 will have the LSD.
The 230 has the LSD and is worth its weight in gold! so much better!
I paid 48 for my 230 wagon, tech and auto boot new off the boat (pre ordered, built to my spec)
10 months later (ie now) 230's should be a lot cheaper!

Basically it boils down to this:
                          MY17 RS 162TSI now = MY18 RS169TSI
                          MY17 RS230 169TSI now = MY18 RS245 180TSI

                          162kW = 220HP / 169kW = 230HP / 180kW = 245HP

The RS230/RS245 have blacked out wheels, exhaust tips, and the brilliant electronically controlled LSD. The "standard" RS models don't.
No spec or pricing on the RS245 has been confirmed yet, but I'm sure it'll be posted here when it is.

The 162TSI was manual & DSG; the RS230 was manual-only. The RS169TSI is manual & DSG; the RS245 will be manual & DSG.

If we're pushing facebook groups, check out AuSkoda - we often have meets in Sydney and Melbourne, there are events in Brisbane and we're slowly growing in Adelaide and Perth as well!

At this stage, the top spec RS162TSI is RRP D/A around $53k for a TSI/DSG Wagon with "the lot". RS169TSI is more around $54.5k, but with more features added in.

Will check out that group later also.

I'll definitely be going a manual as its my preference over auto/DSG. If I hada choice, IÂ’d probably say IÂ’d prefer the facelift over the pre-facelift too,but having to pay the extra premium for that may not be ideal.

ItÂ’s a shamethe 169 doesnÂ’t come with the LSD as well to give us some more options.
I donÂ’t know if IÂ’ll go for a fully optioned car though, thereÂ’s a few things IÂ’dlike so IÂ’ll just have to see what I can mix/match etc.

Lots to thinkabout an consider I think. Feel like IÂ’m leaning more and more toward makingthe change of car from the 86, just a matter of what/when possibly.

As another point of difference, won't the RS245 have the new 7sp wet clutch DSG found in recently released VAG products?
I'm pretty sure this has been confirmed for Oz cars. Don't forget that MY17 RS230 has a different rear exhaust system with a meatier note, I'd say that the MY18 RS245 will carry this point of difference forward as well.
