Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Just wish they had made the auto tallgate the foot waving kind. I've had dodgy struts since new so just hoping that they are more durable then the past year in the long run.

The model I want is $49k RRP DSG Wagon + tech pack, paint and tailgate. Too early to get a decent deal from the dealership?

Just ring up a few and find out. You will never know. I tried almost every dealer in NSW and ended with the one who willing to budge the most, c. 6%.

Awesome! That's the exactly combination as mine. So that's 4 months from order till delivery? Mine only took 2.5 weeks from order till delivery and even that I almost killed myself counting down the days. All the best!

I'll be away for interstate work for a few months so they said they'll factory order one for me and deliver it as soon as I get back for the same cost, very exciting stuff.

Test drove the RS 162 but not the 169, a dealership spent a lot of time showing me the ins and outs of the vehicle though. It's mind blowing how many features there are.

Yes mind-blowing indeed. I am still reading the manual after every driver I did. Lol

                  Slightly off topic:
Anyone with an updated RS figured out where it gets its 30mm increase in rear track width?
I've read that it was done for purely for aesthetic purposes and does not change the handling characteristics.
Is there a way to find out through Skoda dealer portal or service manuals to see what part/s are different in the rear suspension/hubs part numbers are between the two variations? It would be great to see whether it is something as simple as rear discs with a 15mm deeper 'hub' each side. Much nicer way to increase rear track without delving into legalities of adding spacers here in Vic.

Have to admit, much nicer in person than I was expecting... I can hear my Mk2FL getting jealous in the garage at home as I write this.

Hard to drive a good deal at your own dealership without feeling guilty, unless you sell it to yourself and get no commission, same difference I guess. I found it really hard to get anything close to the deal I got with my Mk2, but part of that is that Skoda don't do free onroads etc like everyone else and offer all the goodies with finance. Which I did need but the issue is with factory orders you can't bank on any deals to be around when your car comes that far out. With stock you can. I missed out on everything good as my car came early in the new year and of course all deals were for the prior year builds.

Shall finalise a few items & get the deposit paid up tomorrow. Dealer has no ready stock for a SG unit though so likely that I gotta wait a few weeks which is fine.
Being in Sydney, which dealer please? What is an "SG" unit? Did you get more than a "once-around-the block" test drive? If I'm going to spend close to $50K, I want at least 24 hrs of day/night driving on a section of the M1 (close to me), & the p.m. traffic jams.Oh, & what are people being quoted as delivery times: 2, 4 or more months for the RS 169? Thanks

Regional NSW. SG = Steel Grey. Settled with Quartz Grey in the end as dealer has one allocated - total waiting period was 2 weeks from the day deposit was paid. I was told 3 months average for a factory order. Dealer did mention that 80% of the current stock or on orders are fully-optioned and waiting period is much shorter.

I didn't get to test drive the 169 at all - test drove the 162 back in May and was about to made a booking until I found out the MY18 169 will be arriving. No regrets about the 169 after all - the LED headlamps + rear lamps, DCC, alcantara seats and 9.2" infotainment are worth the additional $ outlay and waiting time for me.

Hi wingzee. Others welcome to comment.

The better 1/2 & I have pretty much settled on a Skoda Octavia RS 169. I'm also interested in what the "245" might hold, especially the cost.

Besides awaiting arrival of the 245, we have a number of issues to address like rationalising 2 of the 3 cars we have before committing, deciding on a colour from the rather limited range, &, heart says manual, head says DSG (expresses concern here at the number of issues with DSGs).

So, subject to acts of Huey, would 4 months be an average delivery from factory to one's hot, anticapatory hands?

                              Cheers
