Auto locking with KESSY

Hi all,

I've had my Octavia RS Sedan with tech and comfort pack for a few weeks now and I'm loving the car. Going through the settings I can see the auto lock setting which is enabled, but the car doesn't lock itself when you get out of range of the key and don't touch it for a while...what I'm hoping is the car will lock itself when someone (read: my girlfriend [emoji849]) forgets to lock the car at home and walks away from it...is this even a feature/possible?

Thanks. Did some hunting around and apparently there is an option you can change using VCDS to enable auto locking.

Our Renault Clio auto locks when you walk away, I like the feature. My wife mostly drives the Clio so when she drives the Octavia she has forgotten to lock it at least once. She also managed to leave her handbag containing the key in the boot when the car was locked (i.e. she opened just the boot, then closed it again). Fortunately I was around with the second key. I've read that you can delay the boot lock with VCDS as well.

I would approach this with caution. As the author on the other forum says:

One word of caution: KESSY is based on RFID signals, and not infallible. There are circumstances under which it may incorrectly think that the key is outside the vehicle when it isn't. What this means is that if you leave the key inside the vehicle and close the door, it could potentially lock the vehicle, and not unlock when you pull on the door handle. If have tested this many times (with the key on the driver's seat and the window rolled down), and KESSY always behaved correctly. If you keep the key on your person there is no situation where you could be locked out of your car, the worst that could happen is that KESSY thinks the key is still inside the vehicle, and not lock it -- that has happened to me, but it is rare.

To the OP - I believe the auto-lock feature you describe in the settings, is the anti-hijack one, where the doors lock automatically once you reach 20km/hr or whatever the speed is.

There IS a setting you can program with VCDS/OBD11 whereas the car will automatically lock as you walk away, provided the key is outside the vehicle.

As mentioned above though - it MAY NOT always be infallible so you need to ensure the key is always ON your person/in your pocket, NOT your handbag/backpack/briefcase.....

I've enabled it on my car, and the auto-locking is almost instant. It's actually TOO quick in my opinion - I've barely set my second foot on the ground while stepping outside and closing the door and it's chirped and locked! I believe there's further settings you can molest to increase the time delay, which I haven't played around with yet. I'd prefer something like 5-10 seconds of delay, as there's been occasions when I've stepped out of the car with the key, but the passenger hasn't yet...... and the car chirps and locks before they've even opened their door!

Opening the boot is also delayed with this function - if you step outside and close the drivers door and walk to the boot, the car has already locked before you get to the boot to open it.

If I can't find a way to increase the time delay, I'll just turn it off and lock it the old fashioned way by pressing the sensor on the door handle or the key-fob when I'm truly ready for it to be locked.

It's REALLY only a function for people who are constantly late for work/train etc, and park their car & race off down the street without thinking to lock the car.
