    Hi pjam,
Software version is 0702, have not tried to update since getting the car.

For anyone wondering, i managed to get hold of up to date POIs over at gpspower.net. Latest link for POIs is as follows:

I converted them to the correct format at POI-Listen Sammlung < Discover Geräte < Volkswagen NAV-Companion < Volkswagen Deutschland
Octavia Ambition 110TSI MY17 Wagon, Race Blue,
    Tech Pack, Auto Tailgate

I don't see how an antivirus threw even a false positive on this file, let alone a real virus alert? Its just a bunch of text and bitmaps... I did this at work, and the corporate antivirus didn't detect anything, and i've looked through all folders within the archive manually and don't see anything. Did your antivirus throw an alert on the archive, the extracted contents, or the pre-extracted contents? I can re-archive and upload just the australia+nz files if you like?

I have checked the file, there are no viruses detected in it. It is probably those filthy file sharing websites that are causing the problem.

Anyway, I have uploaded the file to One Drive.

Hi guys. I'm new to Skoda ownership and this forum. I have a July 2016 Octavia Ambition with the Columbus/Canton tech pack. I'm getting into the car's many techy features, and like Ajmorris above, am looking for the best setup for Android phone connection.

I like Android Auto but really would prefer not to have a USB cable flapping around. In my previous car I was using the standalone AA app with my phone in a cradle, and BT connection to the car audio system. I had the phone auto-answering voice and SMSs and "OK Google" voice commands working reliably for navigation and music selection.

In my limited use of the car's Columbus route mapping, I don't think it is as good as Google Maps. For example, a few times it has directed me to intersections that require me to turn right across traffic, with no traffic lights. Google Map directions seem to be much more driver-friendly.

My current thinking is a setup along these lines:

            - standalone AA on my phone
            - BT connection to the car head unit (using A2DP/AVRCP I believe it's called)
            - wireless charging pad built into a cradle fitted to AC vent at RHS of steering column
            - USB power lead to wireless charging pad neatly concealed somehow
            - ability to use either the car's Columbus GPS or Google Maps

This will also allow me to do other tricky things with Tasker on the phone if necessary to add more features.

Has anyone else been down this path and are able to point out any pitfalls or make other suggestions?
            Cheers
            Geoff

Hey mate - thanks for this.

Can I ask though - how do I install this onto my MIB2 unit?

There's no inbuilt text-files for instructions within your version, and the format and layout of the files is very different to those presented in the link pjam offered http://www.vwwatercooled.com/forums/...ii-109269.html which is over a year old.

Just don't want to stuff things up importing either version to find out I can't remove them again if things go astray.

What's the process with your version?
Just save onto root of SD card & use the columbus to import them?

And can I just save the aus-nz folder only, if that's all I want to import?
I highly doubt my car will ever see overseas roads.....

                Hi spinifex,
I haven't tried them myself as I didn't have time to do so. I simply reuploaded what ajmorris created.
I will give it a try over the weekend and let you know.
                Cheers.

Hi Vexed - I can confirm I tried installing these last night in the same manner as the other thread, however I used USB stick rather than SD card.
The Columbus tried searching all media for valid files, but failed after about 3 minutes of searching.
I'm not sure if this was related to using USB instead of SD..... but will try again tonight using SD card.

I did this a while back and it was a PITA, still can't remember the exact method that finally worked. But the instructions out there don't work as they say they do. I think its because there are different variants of the columbus. Also disabled these in the end as the audible chime for every one drove me nuts. I live in the East of Melb where 99% off all traffic cameras in existence seem to live. And they still put some more in on my regular drive route.

Woofy - can you disable the chime but keep the poi on screen?

I've enabled a few of the factory inbuilt POIs on my system but there's no bells when I drive near them, but they still display on screen

Yeah the chime is an option when doing the converting on the VW website thing that is german if you know what I mean. I figured there was no point bothering without some kind of warning as I wouldn't notice where they were otherwise. Just a silent pop up would be better.

No one interested in tinkering with Android Auto on their Skodas?

I had a loan VW Jetta with the equivalent of the Bolero and i had to cable connect it with Android Auto as Mirrorlink didn't seem to work. It was ok with Google maps but not as intuitive as the Columbus maps. At least the maps are up to date though.

Thanks. I'm just waiting for the bits and pieces to arrive so I can try out a few options. Will report back ....

Updating my trials for those interested ...

I made up a wireless charging vent mount with a couple of embedded neodymium magnets from an old HDD. The charging coil came from Ebay for about $6. The mount is covered with a black rubbery fabric. I used a 90degree angled microUSB lead so it doesn't stick out the side. It works fine and even looks OK. When I get into the car, I just drop the phone into the cradle where it charges wirelessly (at about 0.5% per minute) and is held in place firmly by the magnets. No fiddly connections!

I have standalone Android Auto on my phone set to launch when bluetooth connects. AA initially gave me some crazy problems where it was randomly jumping around the menus. I disabled "OK Google" detection from the Google app and it is now behaving. Strangely, voice input still works for navigation searches (and maybe song selection - I'm not sure).

I am yet to give the car's Android Auto a full trial. I really like the wireless charging. I don't relish the prospect of having to plug in a USB lead every time I go driving. I've heard rumours that Google are bringing out a fully bluetooth version? That would be nice.
