  • Paint Protection

    Hi All,

I get my new skoda in a couple weeks, and i am looking at putting paint protection on it. I refuse to pay the exorbitant prices that dealers/3rd parties charge for application of a paint protection, and came across this:

    DIY Kits

This diy kit is ridiculously cheap, and they claim its the same stuff they use themselves in their professional application. Has anyone tried this kit? Would love to hear other people's experience with it.

    Cheers.

I've used Toughseal for the last decade on 5 cars. Its still there after 5 years. Its great for shine and protecting the paintwork etc, but doesn't stop scratches so I was thinking of going something else recently, but went toughseal in the end again. I get it done professionally these days as I don't have the time, costs me around $500-600

Just because it's a new car don't assume the paint will be in good condition when you pick it up, I've seen new cars looking like they have been washed with sandpaper.

The best way to go if you aren't familiar with detailing a car is to have a professional detailer do their thing, then maintain it from there. With correct washing and care it will be looking like new for years.

Mine wasn't in too bad shape 4mths after delivery, the detailer who did mine a month back said it was one of the better ones, most come delivered with some nice swirls etc. Opticoat is the other one I was trying to remember. My guy does both but prefers Toughseal in the long run. I've had it prove itself over a decade now so was happy to go with it again.

Comparing Tough Seal to Opti-Coat is like comparing VHS to Blu Ray.

if toughseal outlasts opticoat pro+, lets just say it would be a game changer

The most successful format, compared to something that died upon release and is still in death throes?

Jokes aside I've had all my cars up to the 7yr mark and the toughseal is still there well after 5 years. That's going on 5 cars now over a decade. I was going to look into him doing Opticoat, but longevity isn't something that has panned out with it, and I knew what Toughseal does and doesn't do so went with the one I know has worked for me repeatedly.

Whatever you do, make sure (if you do it yourself) the paint/clear is clean and blemish free before sealing it.

As people have said above, new car does not equate to good, clean, blemish free paint. It is usually the other way, as people washing cars at dealerships get no training on correct techniques and usually don't care... in most cases.

Yep, my guy does a full clay all over as well as some paint correction. He was happy this time as the dealer had done a good job and even though it had been a few months it was still in good shape, he just had to get the wax off.

Opticoat or Gyeon quartz or mohs. You need ceramic coating if you want something to really make a difference. The ceramic coating provides protection from scratches, bird poo etc which a lot of other paint protections cannot provide. Also, watching water literally sheet off the paint after just a basic snowfoam is unbelievable. I have quite a few friends with ceramic coating, one of which is heavy into detailing like myself, and he swears by it.

Has anyone done the PPF coverage?

Ive got a quote for the main areas:
Front bumper, 1/4 bonnet & guards, headlights, door cups, mirrors, B pillars, side skirts, bottom of doors & door edges for around 1600

                              Good/bad/otherwise

Edit, Booked for for Solar Style SunTek (best in Brisbane so I'm told.)
