By the way, I don't know if others have noticed, but there is the low res light camera used for the high beam assist on the back of my mirror. I put the etag right there so never noticed it. The option isn't showing in the menu, but apparently its often turned off in VCDS. The larger sensor you have there blocks it so they move it to the main cluster against the glass.

I believe light assist also uses the lane assist camera, but for some reason I don't think it's enabled (seems to be an easy fix via VCDS though, along with enabling speed sign recognition, which uses the same camera).
It's kinda difficult to test a lot of these 'safety' features out, eg just leave the high beams on for oncoming traffic to see if the light assist is going to do its thing. And I'm in no way game to try out the front assist any time soon - I've found the warnings that have popped up so far to be a bit inconsistent, almost to the point of doubting that it's actually working properly.MY 22 Superb Sportline Wagon. 'Drive' Just did a review on MY17 updates for the Octavia. Adaptive Cruise, Autonomous Breaking is now standard on all models. Lane Assist is now part of the Tech Pack ($3200) for the Ambition. I have now changed my mind about purchasing a VW Golf Comfortline Wagon and am going to buy an Octavia Ambition with Tech Pack. The Ambition Plus has gone with the Ambition picking up nearly all the Plus features for a $500 increase over the MY16 Ambition Price.

We picked up our first Skoda on Friday, an MY16.5 (build date 25 April 2016) manual RS Wagon with Tech Pack (and 18" black pack + auto tailgate). We drove up to the Victorian alpine region for a long weekend, so I had ample time to play with the tech toys in the car. I love the adaptive cruise, I'm very comfortable with it now.
I did play around with the lane assist, but haven't conclusively shown that it does steer you back after a few seconds. Sitting in the left lane of the Hume I deliberately slightly turned the wheel to the right to cross the centre marking into the right hand lane. Letting go of the steering wheel the car did seem to drift back into my (left) lane, but it might just have been the castor angle of the front wheels, or the camber of the road? Leaving it longer I did get the 'Caution, take control of the wheel' alarm but I think it was sooner than the previously mentioned 12 seconds. I wasn't game to ignore the warning to see what happened next!
I was also wondering about the high beam assist, given that it seems to be linked to the lane assist camera. I haven't checked my copy of the manual, but the PDF I downloaded shows a symbol on the high beam control stalk that I don't have - a high beam icon with AUTO (or similar) written on it. I too have read about enabling it with VCDS. I can't realisicly see myself needing it but it would sate by tech curiosity if I did have it. Has anyone had any luck?
Oh, and the car is a beauty on the mountain roads of Hotham and BuffaloMY16.5 Octavia RS wagon, manual, Moon White + tech pack + 18" black pack.

There is a way for the auto high beam assist to be easily switched on using OBD11 dongle but it requires 100 credits if you want to use the 'app' instead of long coding. It was one of the things that I'm trying to get working on my car if it has the ability. I'm not sure why it would be switched off in OZ, there's a fair chance it's probably to do with ADR (maybe someone else knows) and hasn't been approved so it would be 'use at your own risk'.Last edited by DETROITCANDY; 08-11-2016, 08:21 AM.
