Can Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) be disabled & normal cruise control used instead?

Hi all,

Just wondering if you can disable the Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) on Octavias with the Tech Pack, and just normal cruise control be activated instead? Can't see anything in the user manual detailing this. Although ACC is a great feature I find it annoying at times - eg - car continues to brake for too long after a car in front merges into another lane.

Any help or feedback much appreciated.

It does that so it pulls you back to the correct distance Have you got it set to the closest distance.

As far as Im concerned its the best feature of the car On the highway I have it on all the time and if necessary just use the right foot to over ride it and move up a bit when needed You can over ride it with the accelerator and it will go back to normal when you lift off it

Far Far better than standard cruise Just be a bit patient

^^^ agreed. ACC is probably the single best feature of the car. I would never buy a car with normal cruise again. In comparison, normal cruise is USELESS in traffic, where ACC is completely usable.

Just remember, ACC actually keeps a safe distance to the car in front. You can set the distance lower if you like, but less than the lowest distance isnt a safe braking distance.

And now that you mention ACC, does anyone have any idea why on earth ACC isn't available on the 135 diesel Scout?

I have ACC on my MB A-class, and, like the posters above I absolutely wouldn't get a car without it in the future!

I had a day trip to Canberra last weekend and noticed numerous times that if I approached a car in front at a relatively slow approach speed, the ACC was so subtle that I often found myself sitting behind the car for some time before realising that I had dropped from an indicated 112kmh to 105kmh. It was only when others passed me that I would look at the speedo and overtake to get back up to the set speed! Still better than having to brake without ACC if overtaking is not safe.
I agree it is much more usable in more built up areas. I have let it slow to a stop and take off again with touching the pedals a few times... although I wouldn't make it a habit to do that!
Does the radar need regular cleaning to remain accurate??

What car do you have? The manual for the Octavia 3 says it should be able to resume after a stop, but as soon as mine brings me to a stop I get a message on the MFD saying "Apply Brake".. If I do, it disengages the cruise, and if I don't, it disengages it and then starts moving.

Sept 2015 build MY16 VRS with tech pack. I have let it come to a stop and then start twice no problem. I cannot remember what the MFD showed at the time but yes, if you touch the brake then the ACC disengages.

It will only come to a stop for a small amount of time, after that you have to take over. Hence it starts moving again.

Maybe it's something that can be changed via VCDS?

My apologies, Reichter is correct. I am guessing I was mistaken due to the lights changing as my car pulled up so I assumed it would remain braked. I tried it again and the brake releases with an audible alarm.

That's what's happens with mine... Also NOT what the manual says it should do, and different to the behaviour of my brother's Mk7 GTI Performance... Looks like for whatever reason they have crippled this in the RS and forgotten to change the manual.

You have a manual handbrake, not an electronic one like in the golf

Fair point, but the car can brake itself automatically with the ACC, and emergency brake, and the hill hold, so it doesn't seem like it shouldn't be able to do this.

From the European Octavia A7 MY16 manual:

Vehicles with an automatic transmission can decelerate to a standstill and
start moving again using the ACC.
Decelerate to a standstill
If a vehicle ahead decelerates to a standstill, the ACC will also decelerate your
vehicle to a standstill.
Starting to drive again after a holding period
As soon as the vehicle ahead starts moving again after a holding period, your
vehicle will also move and the speed will continue to be regulated. Control is
automatically disconnected in case of longer holding periods.
Depress the brake pedal.

I've seen that the latest Audi A4 has a "traffic mode" where it will stop and hold as long as necessary, this may also be available on the Superb, but I think we have to wait a bit longer for it to be available on the Octavia.

Hill hold uses the ABS pump, only works for approx 3 seconds. After that it needs the electronic motors otherwise the abs pump will overheat.

What on earth do drivers do in traffic now days if you don't use the accelerator or brake pedal? Just point the steering wheel or see how long you can drive with your knees. No wonder everyone is on their phones texting etc.
I wonder if 'technology' like this will increase the incidence of dvt's due to drivers not moving at all and stittng in traffic for hours on end?
