  • 16 Builds - How long?

    Hi All,

Anybody have a 16 build on order that they'd be willing to share an ETA on? I am waiting on a 16 build RS , the dealer isn't telling me anything except that it could be as long as July. I haven't been given a VIN yet so can't track it using 2wglobal.

    Thanks, Ben

When did you order it? I intentionally ordered one to be built in jan16, first week. I put the order in Aug and it was placed in the system in Oct. built 2 weeks later than planned in late jan and is on the ship since Feb. I think it missed a boat due to the delay as it was the only one there for a few weeks. Will be docking in Melb on April 2nd and gets to me a few weeks later. My ship loaded in Germany, then picked up mine and others in Belgium a day or so later. Then went the France and is currently at Sth Africa loading Golfs I suspect. Then to reunion island and then, Perth, Adelaide, Melb, Sydney.

I didn't get the VIN until it was pretty much built.

I went to the dealer a few weeks ago and agreed on a price, signed the contract etc but I told them that it needs to be a 16 build because I'm worried about covering the payout at the end of the term because I am doing a novated lease and I can't change the residual.

The dealer said that they would check with the stock controller and let me know but it's been over a week now. I could be assuming too much but I was expecting that a car in my spec would have already been on the way over and that they simply could allocate one to my order? It's an RS Wagon with Comfort, Tech and Auto Boot.

I might need to touch base with the dealer again and check that we're on the same page, I am happy to wait but if it's going to be a BTO and not get here until Q3/Q4 (or something like that) I might need to rethink what I do.

Mine was the first builds of the year, was supposed to be week one but there was some kind of delay of two weeks. I then sat at the dock by itself for nearly 3 weeks when others joined it. Unless yours happens to match something with its new boat mates you would be looking at a BTO which would make sense with a JUly date. Anything arriving on boats from early next month onwards will be a 2016 build. Mine was in the first week of production of them. As for them allocating something, maybe but it would depend on the colour. Stocks are pretty scarce.

My brother just bought one, got an MY16 but not sure of build date.He was told by the dealer that because of the demand even they can't place orders for specific builds.. Skoda Australia has got a whole lot in the pipeline and the dealers can only choose from what is already on the way. This was only a few weeks ago but if it's still the case I don't like your chances of a custom build.. Having said that he got pretty much what you're looking for minus the auto tailgate.

Your brothers dealer is full of s<#%t. They pretty much can only do btos as the incoming are so limited and the dealers get lower priority than customers orders. Sounds like they are trying to flog off a 2015 build car to him.

I really can't understand why anyone would be purchasing a NEW car when the finances are to a point that they are worried about a payout at the end. Forget the end, what happens if you are unable to work in 12 months time for some unforeseen event and need to get out of the lease - at which stage the payout figure will be significantly more than what the car is worth, and you have lost your income...

If you can't afford to pay cash for it, don't lease.

It's all about cash flow. I get a car allowance and as part of that I have to get a car a minimum size and change over every 4yrs. I own more each time but it's more tax effective to hire purchase and by 18mths in I own more of the car than it's worth as I put a decent deposit on it. Not everyone has cash to drop on a car.

I'm worried about it from the perspective where I would rather not chip in the gap between the value of the car and the payout figure. I am financially capable of covering this if required. There are some tax advantages to leasing which is why I am doing it this way.

Well my car was unloaded a week back but sat in customs all week going nowhere, the dealer hadn't chased it up even though I poked them on Tuesday. So it hasn't even got to Patrick's to procrastinate with yet. Think that's just added another week.

Not sure why people get wrapped up on build date. You should by more worried about the "MY" year i.e MY16. Mine was built 12/15 but it's a MY16 so is no different then the same spec car built in Jan-Mar this year and I saved $2500 for that reason alone.

I didn't until I found out over a series of cars that for one, it's worth less on resale, even 7 yrs later. People care about build year as dealers can sit on stock and deliberately not comply them for ages. Secondly insurers also care, my current car was worth less to them and more to insure as it was a MY11 but built mid the prior year. After that I vowed never to get a car in Nov again, but in this time around, if I had a crystal ball and got them to build in Dec, I would have been able to take up a 1% finance offer and save about $1200/yr over 4 yrs of interest, that is a hell of an offering and much more lost than just the hit having the 2015 built car. I had no way of knowing that they would offer that though as each month they change. If they had stock there it makes a big difference as you can likely get what you want and know the entire deal. I had to factor in paying for a care pack as there was also no way of knowing if it would exist in the 8mths the car took to come. Or whether it would be included if I took up their finance which I did in the end. Just have to sort out whats best with the available info at the time.

Ordered my rs sedan/hatch two weeks ago, with the options i was after (race blue with 19"black, comfort and tech packs,) none were available in oz. But, one is currently on the boat with these options plus a sunroof, so i took it. Not long now ........

If they can give you a VIN you can see exactly where it is. Perth is the first stop in Oz, the longest time is around the coast of Africa, heaps of shipping boats there. Then it goes dark after the tip of Africa and appears in Perth.
