The Octavia does not have a pad thickness warning light on the dash - again, none of my friends can be bothered inspecting the pads every 6 months

I do all my own servicing on the Octavia but I was not prepared to de-carbon the inlet tracks (it was necessary) - I put it into the shop for a walnut blast

My neighbor's car had a slipping fan belt - it was screeching for 20 seconds every time the car was started - they could not be bothered putting it in for service or even opening the bonnet - I had to tighten the belt for them
youd probably struggle to change the power steering fluid on an octavia anyway. its electric!

      Too true!

It's such a pain to do on many modern cars - I put the wife's Mazda3 into the workshop for them to do it

Warranty says "genuine parts" and work done by a "suitably qualified person".

What qualifications do you need for a pollen filter? I can't see what warranty issues you could have.

Well, lets say you had some kind of issue with the pollen filter failing - I can't think what, but lets say whatever is downwind of the filter getting gummed up with crap. Heater stops working - they pull the heater out and find a whole lot of stuff in there. Even if it's not because of a bad filter, or the way it's installed, the fact you put it in would be an 'out' for them- just like any insurance company.

Re. the self servicing issue - yes there are some things you wouldn't bother doing yourself, you could still arrange it. Yes like AC refrigerant, tyre fitting. Most regular stuff is easy. I've done a timing belt kit and that's about as hard as the routine things get (what's in the service manual). There are some things I can't be bothered doing, but it's painful letting the dealer do it - the local one charges ridiculous rates for the simplest things.
