Pirelli P Zero on the 19" rims

Hi everyone,
About to take delivery of an RS wagon, and wondering what the feedback is from anyone who has the 19" pack, as far as the tyres go. Not planning on circuit work just regular use, what sort of mileage and wet performance being the main interest. Anyone already changed tyres?

I would not be interested in Pirelli tyres, they are not the tyres leader they once were

19" does not change mileage and wet performance

The main issues are:

• Ride comfort - lower profile, harsher (especially on poor road surfaces)
• Risk of damaging the rim in pot holes (or when you get a flat tyre)
• Cost of new tyres - the 18" 225/40 is a common size so choice, availability and price are much better

Thanks Martin, unfortunately the car has the pack already so just adjusting my expectations. I'm reading around on the pirelli's and certainly don't see too much favourable opinion of them. So maybe over time existing owners might have some history of changing up.

They don't appear to last long so you won't have too long to wait before you can replace them

Pirelli P Zero on the 19" rims

Not sure about whether they come in a 19" but can't speak highly enough of Michelin Pilot Sport 3's as a good all rounder.

They transformed my diesel Peugeot 308SW into a car that had far more grip than acceleration. Good fun!

When I need new tyres on the Polo, I'll be grabbing another pair/set.

I have the P zero's on the 19's. As others have mentioned, they aren't great, and I find them quite noisy, combined with the NVH on the Octavia, it can be irritating on long drives. I'll be switching to the Michelin PS3's when it's time to change.

With the k's i plan to do it may take me some time. Guess i just have to wait (i noticed the demo car on 18's was pretty noisy too, so expect it will be worse again). Shame the so called noise cancellation on the stereo doesnt seem to be really a noise suppression....

Posted on my earlier register note but quite impressed with the noise and ride quality on the 19's. Early days but it's quieter than the demo on 18's. Same road out of the dealer so I can thankfully tick that concern off the list.

I was offered the 19" upgrade from 18" black for free so I took it although I tend to agree higher replacement cost, higher risk of rim damage and rougher ride so maybe I should have stuck with the 18" black pack and just asked for another $500 discount!!
Having previously owned the 2009 125TDI since new I can honestly say that the torque will chew through tyre faster than you can blink, if you have a heavy foot! I tried the original Dunlop Sports, Toyo Proxes and Bridgestone Turanza and they all wore at very much the same rate. I couldn't get more than 20,000km and had to ensure regular rotation front to back.
If you are just looking at daily driving I wouldn't get too hung up on Pirelli versus any other brand other than quietness/comfort. For me the 18" Bridgestone Turanza were the quietest.

Just an update on the road noise - a couple of days ago i changed the soundakator volume to 50% with VCDS/OBD11 and that's made a significant difference to the noise inside the car. I'd dare say some of what we perceive as road noise with the 19's is also noise generated from the soundaktor.

Hi,

Just took delivery (finally!) of my MY 16 Style Diesel with the 19" rims and P Zero tyres. Apart from on course chip I think they are actually a fairly quiet tyre, of course this is just my impression from 600km of driving. Ride comfort in the Style with the 19's is pretty good, way smoother than an RS that I test drove with 18's.

So I assume it was 100% and you changed it to 50%? Isn't that only active with Sports mode? I drive in normal mode almost all the time and assumed there was no sound enhancer active....?

It's louder in sports but is active in normal mode too.

Can anyone tell me the tyre placard pressures for the 19in rims? Since my car didn't have 19's from factory it only goes up to 18in. I did ask the dealer who said 36-38 psi. Cheers, Karl

I've got 19s and it recommends 38psi or 260
