What I don't get with Skoda and the Octavia range is why they bother to have two different fuel tanks fitted to the 4WD and 2WD versions and for such a small (5 litres) difference.
This is the company that saves money by not bothering to orientate the handbrake or bonnet release for RHD, or supply a plastic ice scraper to Australia.
Perhaps they are the same tank size and they just claim the 2WD is smaller to get a lazy 5kg weight reduction on the fuel load?

Anybody got any confirming evidence (or otherwise) of my small conspiracy theory?

The only way to find out the real tank size would be to run the car out of petrol and then fill it up.

I agree. Sometimes it looks like Skoda is running around picking up 20c pieces when $50 notes are flying around their head.

I think the FWD has a pancake muffler on the LHS?

You would think the extra 5L in the AWD might be due to it using a bit more fuel so they put it in to compensate. Pity they didn't just use it for the normal model, but yeah it could purely be to lighten the car by 5kgish of fuel for official specs so it looks better.

At least one of the 'empty' weight standards includes a 75 kilo driver and full fuel tank etc and is the one I think that is included in the brochure.

Kerb weight includes all fluids including a full tank of fuel.
