Hey All,

I'm a newbie to the Forum, hailing from Sydney, NSW and have been researching the Skoda Octavia RS for a few months now. Having test driven the car a few times and liking what I'm hearing, reading and seeing, I'm ready to take the plunge and begin the not-so merry dance of negotiation with the dealers to have one of my very own.

My last one task before hassling (and being hassled by) the dealers was plugging in some figures into the myriad of insurance company online quoting system to get a feel for the cost to insure the car. To my shock and horror, the majority of insurers would not insure the car at an agreed value greater than the average cost of approx. $38-$39K. Only NRMA and Allianz at $45,110 and $47,250 respectively come anywhere near the value of an optioned RS.

So my question to RS owners (Wagon or Hatch), is which insurance companies are you with and were you able to fully cover the cost of your car?

For the record, I am looking at purchasing a MY16 Race Blue Octavia RS Sedan with the 6-speed DSG and fully optioned (Electric Sunroof, Tech Pack, 19" Black Pack, Comfort Pack). I may get the Skoda Care Pack if I can squeeze that into a price I'm happy to pay.

Forget the online quotes and ring for agreed value and new vehicle replacement for 3 years.

Agree, forget about online quotes. I'm with AAMI and they were prepared to insure to just over $52k to cover a few additional things we have on vehicle.

I don't bother with agreed value the first few yrs as they pretty much all give you a new car the first few years.

Yes, Woofy, but if you ve optioned sunroofs and other things they need to be listed on the policy to pump up the value.

Of course, any options I would always put in. I just do market value with any options listed. If something happens in the first 2-3yrs that can't be repaired they give you the same spec car. Not much point in doing agreed during that time unless you want the cash instead of the same car.

How true is it that if the same car is no longer available you then have to accept market value?

Exactly how flexible is the policy?

eg: If I bought a MK2 Octavia vRS in 2013 & wrote it off now then obviously there are no new MK2 vRS to replace it with - what happens?

If I bought a 132tsi Scout and wrote it off & the 132tsi had been dropped from the range - what happens?

I've often wondered but never looked. From experiences with other things, I think they would have to come to some sort of equivalence in the event it no longer exists. Ie if you would get something worth what the invoice paid. I'm sure there are plenty of stories out there about it.
