Got my dealer to book in my RS to get the front windows matched to the privacy glass and clear film put on the rear, 35%. Called and spoke to the company they outsource to and it's only costing an extra $5 to get it done as opposed to getting it myself, double checked prices at other places as well. Fingers crossed they do a good job, looked up the place doing it and they have a really good reputation it seems, plus it's 3M.

I wish we could legally get something like 25-30% here in Australia (NSW) all around the car. I ordered my car in white and they look so much better with really dark tint.

Plenty of people run 20% without issues. I have 20% and pass at least 4 HWP cars a day and they don't look twice.

I had 28% on my previous car - you couldn't tell it from 35%

Yeah, one of the car tint places I spoke to mentioned the same thing. I'm just a stickler for not voiding my car insurance, I know it would probably never happen but I'm too worried about it haha

We all have different levels of risk we are willing to accept.

Posted in the other thread but curious what others had done with the tint in the rear quarter windows? From the factory there is rubber around the top and sides moulds into a flat bit about .75cm wide which is kinda stuck down. In mine they have cut in at an angle and completely trimmed that away and then cut out a wedge in behind the pillar between it and the window and same all around over to the edge of the door. Also seem to have done it a little down in the sill as well. The tint has bubbled in places so is booked in for Tuesday for the tint guy they used to come and look at it. I'm pretty positive noone else will find such a weird method used, and most would have pried back the rubber and slipped it under it.

sucks they butchered your car woofy

I'm with Brad. Both octavias (this one and last one) I put 20% all round. Looks awesome, works great, no issues that i've ever come across with the law. You'd have to be driving like a cock or have a really anal, ******** cop to actually book you for tint.

If you can tell me or better still take a pic of your quarter window so I can see how your tinted did it that would be great. Every car has them so I find it hard to believe that was the only way.

I have a wagon? or are you talking about the one on the door?

EDIT: Pics of rear doors, and from inside car. Please note, this particular 20% tint has a very high metal content so in some lights (like this) it appears reflective. It's not really in most light.

I can see some minor defects in ours (bottom corner of tint not fully stuck down, slight gap at edge etc) so I know ours isnt perfect. Dont notice it TBH as there are no visual defects (i.e. its perfectly clear to look through, no defects like that)

EDIT car is dirty as it has sat under the house all week. Will be getting washed tomorrow

I was looking at it the other day and wondering how it will go when the daughter goes for her "L"s. I'll have to make sure it's a bright sunny day as I don't think low paid government workers are as lenient with young people.

It's a tricky area to take a pic of, but I can't quite see if you have the flat thin rubber edging that runs around with the rubber at the top and sides. Kinda looks like yours is gone too. The reason they cut it away is so there is something on the outside otherwise there is a gap if they can't get the film right up against the rubber. In my case they cut it all away and then more underneath

Was going to wash the car and noticed there are more etches all around the back window. No doubt at all they cut the film on the outside. Then noticed the passenger rear wagon area window has lighter but obvious scratches around it the entire way. And a couple of what is either inside or outside on the quarter rear door window that started me discovering this all. Trying to work out what I can live with as I don't want more issues getting the wagon area window replaced. Can't stand rattles and creaks. The rear glass is too scratched up. Hopefully they don't give me grief over it. I'm guessing the detailer was Stevie wonder as anyone washing this car could see any of those scratches a mile away. I saw the worst one from meters away in the sun yesterday walking back to it.

Had similar done when getting decals on a Taxi Had just had front guard painted and the guy put the strip on then used a box cutter to trim it and went right into the soft paint. Had to cough up for it to be repainted as he couldnt argue with us standing watching him

Woofy, there is a thin rubber strip all around the inside - it is the inside that you are interested in right? Agree its hard to see in those photos, but tint does go all the way down to the rubber, and stops just against it. I'm not sure how big it was before tinting, but its a consistent size/shape for all the windows, so either the tinter cut them all down equally, or that's how it was stock?

Either way I dont notice that sort of thing. Never had anyone comment on the tint except to say it looks good? Job looks similar to previous jobs i've had. Not show car quality, but good enough if you know what I mean?

Yep yours wasn't cut. I've looked at my other cars and they just butt the tint up against it. It's only clear as I have privacy glass so wouldn't have been a big deal if there was a small gap there. They certainly didn't need to cut as much as they did,

Don't get me wrong, there's a nick here or there on that rubber (just a whisp that you can notice getting right up close) but unless you are specifically looking for that, with your head right next to it, it's not noticable. Rubber certainly doesnt appear trimmed back which is sounds like yours was.
