  • Kessy issue or Spare (wet) Key for Surfing

Just Purchased a MY16 Scout. Delivery sept. I noticed the Kessy fob is an all in 1 set Up. Therefore it won't be hanging around my neck while Surfing like I can with my Wifes' cars removable blade from her Fob. If I use a keysafe and clamp to the tow hook or rim, won't that allow the door to be opened via the proximity sensor? If the car is setup to only open from say the Drivers Door, and the Kessy is key safed at the rear, (>1.5m) would that be far enough away to NOT open the Drivers Door?
    Cheers

Think it would be too close. Just give it a try.

If you can put it in a metal tin inside the key safe it should prevent the car sensing it.

You might be able to change the settings of how strong the cars prox sensor is?

Is it still a keyed ignition or a slot in the dash? If keyed you might be able to get a non remote key for it made and then you can keep it on you. This would be a lot safer than keeping the key on they car. Last thing you need is someone seeing where you put it and then pinches your car when your in the water.

I also would not trust any of those key safes. If they are the type with 4 numbers that you dial in then there are only 10000 possibilities of combinations, worst case of trying every possibility it will take just over an hour to crack it.. Or most of these can be opened other ways a lot quickly.

10000 combinations in a hr? That's almost 3 combinations a second!!! I'd say at best 1 combo per second so that's 10000 secs which would be 2 hrs 45 min.

Good luck to anyone who wants to sit there for almost 3 hrs trying it.

As I am a bit of a lock nerd, yes, around an hour. Or if you know how they work under 30 seconds to decode them. But hey, if you want to trust a "lock" like that with your keys that's fine

The Car is also a Push button start/Stop. If I get a Blade made to open the doors (apparently a key hole in the handle somewhere). Does anyone know if you can Lock the car with the Ligit Fob still inside? On my wifes car the fob disabled when the Blade is used to lock the car.

I think you will find you can't. My Santa Fe screams at you if my wife leaves hers inside and I try to lock. Maybe think about this a different way like zip locking it into your pants. Or a small otter box. I'd be worried about crushing it but I don't think you will get the answer here. Try calling a Skoda service centre and see what they suggest. You don't want to be pulling off the door handle bit to use the key all the time either. My car is ok as it still has a normal keyhole. The Skoda has a cover for really emergencies. Or maybe just don't get kessy.

Someone needs to start a business putting beach lockers in, you would think the surf clubs would.

you're assuming people surf at populated beaches.

I wasn't really, I was thinking about unpatrolled ones with self serve basic lockers that you just whack a padlock on.

Sooooo If the key was say on the ground next to the Tailgate and only the Drivers door was selected to open, do any kessy owners know if the Drivers door would open? Sounds like a spare blade would be a unhelpful! Cheers

Can't speak for the Octavia, but in mine if I stand near any of the buttons that open the doors, my kids can open the car from any other door. It just requires my key to be near enough to one.

If you wanted to get a mechanical key that would only unlock the door and then keep your remote key in the car, then get a meat cooler bag as the metal lining will help shield the key. Or take the battery out of it.

Thanks Guys, The Kessy on the Octy gives you the ability to isolate a particular door to be the only one that opens. I am hoping that will mean a key in a metal key safe on the other corner won't allow the particular door to open. That would be problem solved. The Insulated bag inside the car for the fob and a separate blade is also a good idea. Thanks again

Trouble is you have to disassemble the door handle to use the blade, and that takes a screw driver. Not something you do everytime you go for a surf. Luckily my Elegance doesn't have a proximity key and I just lock it in a key safe which I attach under the car.
