Not relevant to us, we don't have diesel engines. 502/505 is enough for our engines.

Octavia vRS Mk2 Oil Consumption Issues

Quick update: It looks like they might be replacing the block on ours!? Just waiting on the confirmation from the dealer. He said 'they're replacing the engine' which I got him to clarify and he said a whole new block.Skoda Octavia v/RS - 2012 Petrol 6MT

Interesting - for me at least.
My petrol 2007 vRS is using a lot of oil I have noticed.
Maybe a litre every 1500kms?
using VW approved oil.
Would anyone else recommend using 5-40 such as Penrite Enviro ?
I had assumed my PCV had been replaced but I'm not certain - would this be a sensible step to take?
Not burning any oil that I have ever seen, nor dropping ANY when parked.
Id be interested in anyone else's experience or suggestions. Thanks

Thanks Brad.
I'm off to get some oil first thing. Any recommendations for brand?
This is what I'm most likely going to use, for now:
Penrite HPR 5 Engine Oil - 5W-40
Would replacing the PCV be likely to have any remedial effect on the oil consumption? I'm considering ordering one, and possibly replacing the diverter valve while I'm at it (not connected obviously).Last edited by Smiley_Walsh; 11-07-2015, 12:18 AM.

I'll make sure I get all the paperwork and test results on completion of the works.
So far VERY impressed with how VW Au has handled it. The dealer has been a bit frustrating though.Skoda Octavia v/RS - 2012 Petrol 6MT

I have no idea what my service guy uses but he's just gone over to LiquiMoly.
If you want to get technical, look for the highest flashpoint. There are a few threads in the other parts of the forum but they're a nightmare to find the detail stuff.carandimage The place where Off-Topic is On-Topic

My new mk3 has used about 250ml of oil now in 6.6k (most of that in the first 1500, only about 100ml in 5000 since run in) Previous mk2 rs only used a bit on run in. I'll keep track of my current one to make sure it doesn't guzzle it, but a bit of oil usage (like what I'm seeing) I can live with/accept as normal.

If you mean Briskoda then they probably mean 1L (the unit they buy oil in) / 1000miles (what's on their speedo). Which is still unacceptable.
The Brits appear to have a lot more consumer protection at initial purchase and a lot less after the warranty runs out.carandimage The place where Off-Topic is On-Topic

Nothing worse than blind fanbois or blind haters. I like to judge based on actual experiences, or after lots of research. Having owned 2 Skoda's now, I have no question that they are generally very reliable. Obviously some can get issues, but typically it's certain models / configs that get issues (and not just skoda, any VAG car with that engine/gearbox). The 2L TSI for example, i'd do the cam chain tensioner without fail at 80k, due to the large number of issues people have reported. A little Oil consumption is "normal", but large amounts (Like Andres had) can typically be pushed for a fix.
For me, the small risk you might get a lemon (which lets face it, happens to pretty much all companies!) is outweighed by how great the cars are for the price. I like the fact we can still get manual gearboxes, unlike pretty much every other competitor out there. I'm not a blind supporter - I will buy whatever suits my needs "best" in that price range at the time. But unlike lots of people, I will give praise where its deserved. Often on forums, we only hear about people with issues (as they seek out help or to find out if others have had an issue in search of a resolution) - I like people to hear from happy owners as well as disgruntled/disappointed owners to try and get a better judge of potential issues. It's why I recommend people search here when buying a VAG brand car - come and read the owners forums to get a better idea of potential faults/issues, then make your mind up if you see it as a risk2014 Skoda Ambition Plus 103TSI candy white wagon, 6sp Manual, Tech pack, Panoramic Sunroof, 18's, Colour Maxidot, Comfort BT

118TSI Manual, guess you could say the car is "driven" but no oil consumption (or very minimal)...only had the oil light come on once and that was just before my 5,000km oil/filter change interval and a nice spirited weekend in the Hunter
