Buying / inspection advice Octavia vRS 2007

My 08 Octavia vRS is 220'000 and still kicking! Changed the timing belt and water pump at around 180'000 and the mechanic said the belt 'ok' for the kms it had before changing it... Do regular oil changes and you'll be right... The belt had been changed at 80'000 before I bought it (or say it says in the log books)

I forgot, I replaced all shocks (after popping one on a pot hole) at 150'000 and added a sway bar...

The rears can wear on the inside as well. Either way you need a decent 4-wheel alignment
          Brake bulb replacement n/s rear
Make sure you get the right bulb - the pins might be offset rather than directly opposite each other. /thinks - that can't be right. On the wagon it uses a single filament bulb with variable voltage to give the tail/stop light. If it works as a tail light then the brake light should work as well. Maybe the bulb is wrong anyway?
small oil leak from oil filter only, tighten or replace
This is possibly a cracked filter housing - pretty common if overtightened. ECS tuning do a billet Aluminium housing for USD90 plus post (probably ~AUD180 all up). If it's the housing assembly then it could be a bit more if it's gone brittle
headlight mounting broken, front left - repair required
That's an interesting one - no comment
Left rear passenger window motor connected in reverse - fix
I don't see how as all the connectors only fit one way. You might have to pull a connector to pieces (not hard) and swap the terminals
          Wiper blades need replacement!
You can get them for ~$50 but count on $90

Ask them for another $500 off - that will cover half the repairs required (tyres, alignment, labour)

The dealer has agreed to replace the n/s rear tyre, fix the oil filter leak and left brake light, and they will repair the missing/broken headlight mounting and remedy the reversed n/s rear window operation - all before I collect it.
I'll certainly arrange a 4 wheel alignment and sort the wiper blades myself! Plus the suggested part replacements suggested previously (filters, PCV & Diverter valves).

Wiper blades you can get directly from Bosch for a good price. Easy to swap over. I'm guessing the reversed window motor was due to a smash repair job.

Thanks Brad! I hope it all works out.
There has been some minor repair work done - I also assume the window issue is linked to that, Woofy.

Gee you have good timing, Bosch just posted today a 15% discount until end of June on wiperblades in here, so easy sorted.

So, I collected the car today. Very happy.

Looking to buy service parts online to save money, but I'm not 100% sure if this diverter valve and PCV are correct:

I'm also looking at a range of others parts from ECS tuning (filters, plugs, PCV valve). They are all listed under the Golf V 2.0T FSI - can I be sure that they are correct for my '07 2.0T vRS (1Z) BWA engine? I have an alternative option for all filters and plugs from a UK-based eBay seller http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item...d=371121351928, but not the diverter/PCV valve. It seems to make sense to combine all the items into one order if I can.

lastly, I think a diagnostic tool/cable would make sense. Is the system OBDII? I can see that a few of you have used them? Brad? Woofy? Is there a simple way to check what I need to buy? I'm considering a wireless option:

, as I don't have a Windows OS but do have iOS devices. I'd love to hear if anybody has experience using one.

                        Thanks.

Yes those 2 items are correct.

Have a good look at the PCV hoses, etc as you might be better with one of their kits.

For the DV check out the GFB DV+. They are AUD135 which is a small premium when you take into account forex & ECS's high freight fees.

Yes, if it fits the 2.0TFSI GTI Golf then it's 99% certain to fit your car.

In Sept last year I paid <$20 for a cabin filter; <$60 for Denso Iridium plugs; <$40 fuel filter; <$25 Air filter; <$20 oil filter and change the washer on the sump plug. That's all delivered. So $200 is near the money considering the dollar has dived a bit since then

There is a VCDS / OBD2 connector near the bonnet pull. I'm not sure how much info OBD2 gives. I have a VCDS cable.

                            Thanks, Brad.

Yes, I'm considering the GFB DV+, but equally the piston replacement seems a good alternative if available for a decent price.
I'm considering replacing the PCV valve with an oil catch can - is anything additional required to fit one, other than the connecting hoses, such as any sort of blanking plate on the crankcase?

Agreed. As you said, around $200 online for all of those filters and plugs seems reasonable.

Now I just need someone to reset my service reminder after changing the oil... 😏

I also want want to get a wheel alignment done soon. Any recommendations / prices for SW Sydney area?

Does your / a VCDS cable require a particular OS to run i.e. Windows XP/7 and software? The wireless unit I posted requires purchase of a 3rd party App - I'm just not certain yet that it will work with my vehicle.

That pcv part clearly says not for tfsi. Brad must not be using his glasses today weekend and all lol.

Unless if you click it goes elsewhere but it's the wrong part by the description. It does say mkv 2t golf though so not a very clear description. Any reason why you don't just get the oem part?

TBH I was confused by their description. It seems to be saying that the engine shows FSI on the top, not TFSI.
It's from ECS Tuning, as you can see. Listed for MkV Golf GTI.
OEM cost? Any suggestions about catch can as an alternative? Any better? Parts required?
                                Thanks.
