  • About to buy and Octavia VRS Wagon

    Hi guys,

So I've been in the market for new car and arrived at the Octavia RS Wagon.
Test drove the car and was really impressed with the performance, practicality and kit.
However the clincher is the current deal on fiance and free warranty extension.

I've essentially as of 17:30 this evening "tentatively" (no deposit) agreed to purchase:

14 build MY15 Moon White Octavia VRS wagon with
    - 19 inch Black Pack
    - Leather
    - Tech Pack
    - Sun Roof
    - Powered Tail Gate
    - Carpet Set
    - Reverse Camera

I'll have to put the deposit down on it tomorrow to take delivery on Wednesday.

Before I put the deposit down I just wanted is there anything I should ask for or check before I seal the deal so to speak?

    Have anyone gotten a towbar?

Really excited about a thriving mod community. I''m looking to pretty much so a Stage 1 mod straight away and than just like crack I'll be addicted and this car will be my new money pit....

They had one like that at Peter Warren Warwick Farm that I almost bought myself except I did not want sunroof. There are very few in the country in that spec so I would put the money down!

      Hey After, darker

Check your PM, I think they all had Sunroof however. I'm like you I was indifferent to the sunroof for me it was all about the leather and the tech pack.

The car I test drove had the standard cloth seats and honestly they were pretty impressive as well.

Towbar can be done aftermarket, but I should have done it as part of the deal so it was included in the finance package. Its expensive tho'. There is a separate thread discussing all things towbar.

Not sure this helps at all Just a frivolous post.

I wouldn't do a stage 1 straight away. There are potential turbo issues with that model & you need to give it a bit of mileage to know if you got a good one or not.

ECU remap will void your drivetrain warranty & can't be hidden on that ECU. If the dealer hooks up the computer thingy it will flag a remap back at Skoda HQ which cannot be deleted. It's no longer a case of the dealer turning a blind eye & being nice. You need to be aware that if you want to play you have to pay.

Thanks Geemat, Thats exactly what I did. After reading the towbar thread I thought it best to get it dealer fitted.

Thanks for the tip Brad, It'll be hard to hold out but I'm going to have the car for 5 years and dont want to void the warranty if I can help it. Maybe I'll wait a year.

On my Mk2 I held off until 30,000km (about 15months) just to see if there were any issues as I was one of the first EA888 drivetrains.

Added bonus was that it was like getting a new car.

I'm still learning about the tech details of the vRS Does the Mk3 have the same drivetrain as the Mk2?

Similar but different is the best i can describe.

Engine is EA888 Gen 3. Many significant changes from Gen1 (up to 3rd qtr 2008?) and Gen 2 (3rd qtr 2008 until Mk2 end of life?).

Gearboxes are the same (near enough)

                      Chassis is quite different

                      Brakes different

                      Wheels/tyres - same

Isn't it the same ECU as the Mk7 GTI, which I thought APR had developed a remap that was undetectable for the Mk7 GTI?

Also, I wasn't aware the Mk7 GTI had any turbo issues. I thought most of those where the Golf R/Audi S3 which has a different turbo to the Mk7 GTI/Mk3 Occy?

I'm running Stage 2 software at the moment. 7000km in and still good. I know its early days but I know the risk involved. Plenty of people still getting warranty work despite being tuned. There are known turbo issues so the tune isn't entirely to blame, if you have a bad turbo it will fail even stock as the boost levels with the tune are still within stock levels. I thought majority of turbos are failing early in the cars life? I guess it depends on how much you are pushing them.

There has been a few revisions to the turbos. I haven't heard of one fail yet on Briskoda or any other forum but i could be wrong.

Do you use a particular workshop for tuning and service or DIY?

I'd be really interested in catching up some time go for a drive

I get my car serviced at Exoticars in North Paramatta. They are also one of the main GIAC and CTS turbo distributors, which I'm running a CTS intake, downpipes and GIAC tune.
