Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Geneva International Motor Show 2015

I ducked up to Palexpo after work last night to go to the Geneva International Motor Show - tickets are half price after 4pm. Of course, my main focus was seeing the Skoda stand but I went with a friend who insisted on wandering past all of the other brands first.

The Skoda stand was in the same place as last year, with roughly the same layout.

The main feature is the new Superb. There's a nice (no touching) green one out the front, but at the back of the stand are silver and blue models that you can have a better look inside and outside. I have to say that the new Superb is a beautiful car. It's huge inside, the boot is massive but the best thing about it is the restrained quality look - inside and outside - that Skoda has really nailed. Compared to the VW Phaeton on the next stand, the Superb looks modern, the interior is comfortable but as I say restrained - it's not trying to yell "prestige" like so many other brands there.

My main interest was the new Scout, as this is the model I'm seriously contemplating when I get back to Australia. Some of my thoughts are:
    • the sunroof is huge!
    • it doesn't feel like a lot has changed inside, although the cruise control has moved to a new stalk of its own. Is this a bad thing? I don't think so - I felt instantly at home when sitting in both the driver's and rear seats.
    • electric tailgate is cool (although I would have like it if the bumper sensor from the Superb was there.
    • the young lady told me that the seats in the Scout were the leather option. Unlike the RS, they weren't full leather but leather with a sort of suede insert.

If the new Superb was available in Australia in 2015 then that would definitely be the car for me. Otherwise, my head says Scout but my heart says RS (paddle shifts, full leather).

I got chatting to one of the guys who had spent a year in Canberra. Gave him my details, so I'm planning to book in some test drives locally especially of the diesel models. If I can figure out what I want, then I might be able to put my order in before I return and save some of the long delivery times.

I have had a few Superbs as courtesy cars and really liked them, but found the length a pain in my job for parking. Feels like driving a Hearse with the wagons. They look awesome now, kind of better than the Octavia. I'm partly interested in the Scout, but will probably get the RS again. Still trying to figure out how to get iPads to mount to the back of the all in one bucket seats in the RS. Volvo have similar seats in lots of their cars but use a sock type thing they sell. Wish Skoda did.

If I could order a new Superb in Australia now, I would do it. I could get a Swiss model, but is just 3 months of pure driving pleasure worth it?!
