If the dealer had advised us at that time that this change would delay our order we would have been prepared. Instead we optimistically thought we would have the vehicle by Easter 2015 and had planned a nice road trip.
I'm guessing the dealer may have just simply submitted a new order some time late 2014 to make sure your vehicle is built in 2015, hence why you're back down the queue, even behind me. Had the dealer kept your order in the system, your vehicle would most likely be built in the end of 2014.
Ordered (Mid-sept 2014 / Picked up, end of April 2015): Metal grey Octavia RS TSI hatch (MY15) | DSG |18" black pack | sunroof | tech pack | comfort pack
Dealers don't know what is going on a lot of the time unfortunately. I've been debating whether I would be better off having the car arrive early next yr, and then of course it will come even later and by the time they actually get here, the MY17 orders have started. I think the best option is to get a late year build and have it arrive early in the year. If there were shorted delivery times, it wouldn't be so bad, ie Mazda build and deliver in around 3mths. But when you have 6-7mths time lapse it's hard to get things to align properly. If you want build date and compliance in teh same year you are looking at a July-Dec delivered car, but by then the next MY is already well and truly on the way making yours lose value already.
Too true! The long delivery times does make deciding when to order the vehicle difficult.
For the RS, I decided that I wanted a vehicle manufactured in the same year it is being collected. My current Honda Euro was made in November 2005 but was purchased new Feb 06 (the MY06 was at the dealer's the week I collected the MY05 car, fortunately the changes were purely cosmetic). But for resale purposes it will always be an 05 vehicle regardless of when it was first registered; not that it probably makes much difference to resale value when I generally keep my vehicles 10 yrs due to their low mileage.

Anyway..now at least your wait is almost over!
Our order is shown as having been entered into the system 25/9/14. I can only assume the dealer calculated that holding the order to that date would guarantee a MY15 manufacture. It should be noted that that date of 25/9/14 hasn't changed despite our order being changed in October to include the Comfort Pack.
I've had dealers argue with me that the compliance date is more meaningful these days when there are long build/delivery times, but I bet if I was to try and sell the car back to them the build date would suddenly be important. My late 2011 bought Santa Fe had a build date of April 2011 on all my paperwork and when it had it's first service I was shocked to find it was actually built a year before....I got a free service out of the ensuing discussions and not much more.
