Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Octavia III Spotted!

Seeing how more are starting to appear on the road, thought I would post up a octavia III spotted thread. I saw one yesterday at Kelvin Grove (in a carpark). Wagon, silver in colour, had 18" Golus and xenons. Wasnt sure if it was a elegance or a specced up Ambition+ (didnt get close enough)

    Anyone from here?

I also see a white wagon on the western freeway some days, near fig tree pocket.

Was great to see a white, Octavia III RS wagon with black pack cruising down the M4 this morning. Well not really cruising but stuck in the good ole Sydney traffic... Wonder if that was anyone from the forums?

Saw 6 RS Octy's for immediate delivery at Alto Pennant Hills Rd (Sydney). None manual but if you want a DSG most are well optioned.

Not happy with the brand solidarity - I can't get a wave from other SKODA owners - there's a new Blue VRS wagon in our suburb and a brand new silver sedan at the hospital. No waves though.

At my usual parking building in the Brisbane city, there's always an Mk2 VRS in silver. We parked side by side one day, awesome way of acknowledging each other. Never get to meet the driver in person though.

There's a white Octy 3 hatch parked in my building quite a bit. Hyde Pde Campbelltown. It has reflector headlights so I'm assuming it's a base spec... maybe it's a Rapid. I haven't bothered to do the walk around.

I don't bother waving at the Skoda drivers I see - most of them are women & I assume the car was chosen by someone else & they haven't the foggiest what they are driving.

I am woman and I picked and decided about my car. My husband agreed with by I was the main one who decided about brand, model.. Now, I can't say that I am very well knowledgeable about engine performances or other details but I love it and I am very proud of my car.
So a little wave to the women drivers would be nice too

I sometimes give a bit of a wave, usually only if it's an RS, more likely to be an 'enthusiast'! I get the occasional acknowledgement but just as often a look of 'who the hell are you?'!

I remember back many years ago when I started riding motorbikes, I'd get a full on wave from just about every other bike rider I passed, this was gradually replaced over the years with a nod - fair enough, I've made the mistake of lifting the hand for a wave at 120 km/h... Now it's virtually nothing... Sad really.

I saw the white wagon again yesterday at darra roundabout.
Agree with you about the bike part, I ride all the time and nod when possible, but lots of newer riders don't nod back.

No wave on bikes anymore? Not even among the Bimmer brigade?

How sad. I had to stop riding in '98 and enjoyed the cameradery of biking. I had a circa-1990 R80 with S fairing and hard bags that I commuted on and a circa 1980 R80ST that the previous owner had half converted into a GS. I wish I still had the ST, it was a rocketship.

Pretty much. It's almost rare enough to say it doesn't happen, even amongst fellow BM riders. It does improve a bit though once you get away from the major centres. That's the way society has gone I suppose.
