discovery pro satnav - street pronunciation is terrible

driving my wifes new octavia today in unknown territory using Discovery pro sat nav
the street pronunciation is terrible - sounds excrucaiting
is there a fix for this ?
surely there must be - hopefully they will fix at first service.
the maps are row 2013 so also outdated
any advice ?

All maps are at least a year old as they have to code them to the model after Sensis or Whereis release them.

Can never be right up to date. Not even Google is.

Appears that language is a generic Mk7 problem Lots of complaints in the appropriate forum

Check the map date as well, there is a 2014 dated map, but if you have a 2013 car it would probably have had last years map. When did you take delivery? if recently i would be pushing the Dealer for the latest map.
And, yes the pronunciation is terrible, but you can opt for short directions instead of long which removes alot of the street names altogether.

THe latest map is usually a year old by the time we get it. The V6 map was 18 months old according to the road improvements missing in our area

Have a look in "Menu" > "Setup" > "System Information", it will tell you whether the map is 2013 or 2014. Mine is 2014, but i know some of the recently delivered 2013 cars have the 2013 map, as they were demonstrators and the like and had the earlier map installed.

The pronunciation is an issue. To keep memory requirements down, they use syllable pronunciation, so when you get a combination it can produce some hilarious results. Then you have to look at regional variations and variations by country, and it becomes quite complex. Forget what they use in satnavs, you only have to see some of the way they murder pronunciation on TV news programs.

As they say, it all has to do with the empharsis!!!!!!!!!

Having come from an A250 Merc back to a GTI (don't worry, the Golf is a FAR SUPERIOR car) it is truly embarrassing just how bad the VW / Audi nav and voice control is. Dad has a new S3 and it's even less acceptable in a prestige European car. The Merc's lovely English voice never once mispronounced a street name or voice control setting, including reading the contacts from my phone etc. I think it is absolutely unacceptable for Audi. If Merc can do it then Audi have no excuse whatsoever. The VW is just as bad as Audi. I just try to have a laugh each time to see how bad it will be!
