I was filling up my MkV TDI Golf the other day and thought I'd check out the price of 98RON. I was taken back that its 10c a L more than diesel! (could be a canberra thing of being over priced?).
Gerry, having gone from diesel to petrol, can you tell me how much more you are spending on fuel, if at all? I mainly do local driving and fill up once every 4-6wks. Both cars are auto too.

Like Brad the fuel prices in Adelaide are on a cycle, currently 3 weeks, so of course I fill up when low and only occasionally have to buy a few litres to tide me through. Pathetic really as it only saves a few dollars a year but I never go out of way for cheaper petrol and never queue.
95 octane is 11cents more than 91 and then another 7 cents for 98.
Most driving is around Adelaide with the occasional country trip and the average for 4000 km since new is 6.3l/100 on maxidot, 6.2l/100 on Fuelly.
Having read Briskoda threads on DPF issues I was reticent about a new diesel with the high amount of short urban driving we do and then Skoda pricing on Mk3 models pretty well made the decision for us.
Average consumption on my diesel was about 5.7l/100 so yes I am paying more on fuel but with lower servicing costs there is probably very little difference, not forgetting the huge initial saving on purchase.

6.3 short trip town driving is great! I bet the wife doesn't get that in ours. Must have a right foot built like a lead ingot. I regularly get 15-20% better than her for the same driving. If we get under 7 I'll be pretty bloody happy.
