Did the back to front pocket switch some years ago on advise that it would help with recurring lower back stiffness and occasional pain. I was sceptical, but it works! (At least for me.)

I keep my wallet slim, less than 1cm thick, but it seems even that is enough to cause an imbalance. Probably even more so given that I'm a desk jockey.

Lower the seat - this will change the angle of your legs and may be more comfortable (worked for me)

I've had a love/hate relationship with these seats since buying the car about 3 years ago. Individual anatomy is a big factor in seat comfort. My issues with these seats would have been taken care of by the addition of a seat base tilt function. Common on too many older model cars to list here. The raise/lower function does alter the seat base angle, but to get my longish legs comfortable my hair is almost brushing the roof lining. And I haven't got a lot of hair!

I had a Beamer in another life and it had a squab length adjustment. I could extend or shorten the length of the base, as well as adjust the tilt angle. This allowed changing the pressure points on the hammies, as well of the angle of the thighs to spine. Best seats I've ever had. The more adjustments the higher the level of "tailoring" possible. To only have up/down, back/forward is disappointing on such an otherwise very well appointed, feature laden late model car.

Appreciate all the replies. Latest news is I took it for a longish drive, marvelled at how sweet the car was but despite all the adjustments I was never going to get comfortable in it. So it's gone to a great bloke who saved himself a good bit of money on a demo price. Planning to look at a superb this w/end. Thanks again.

Really? That is a shame, I was noticing this morning how my legs sit in the seat. I drive a manual, so seat is further forward than most as I have to be able to get both feet flat to the firewall.(especially for the clutch). Unlike my A4 where the take up was in the first 1/2".

I am only 5'8" and the back of my knees and hamstrings dont rest on the squab of the seat. I do have the seat all the way down, whereas other cars i generally have them raised a little.

I do spend time in a car to get steering column height and reach just right. Most people rarely tilt the steering column and even less move it in and out. Add to this the time to get seat back tilt and base correct and I have zero problems with RS seat.

UI do admit that the height adjustment does tilt the base at the same time, and having this independent would be nice, but it has never been as in issue for me.

Drove a hire car XR6 the other day and it was awful.

I'm away next week but decided to take the car to an upholster the following week to get it looked at and see if we can get this thing a bit more comfortable...

Took it to a place this morning and nothing can really be done unless you un-do all of the leather, re-shape it and then re-upholster it all which will end up costing a bit to do...

They suggested putting a lambswool seat cover on the middle of the seat to raise it... we tried it out and it was much more comfortable so I think im gonna down that path... will also protect the seat I guess from wear...

Just make sure you get sheepskin covers with fabric backing in them or they will scuff your leather seats. Been there done that

A guy from my cricket club has always got his seats re-upholstered in leather from an interior place - called blackmans.

Decided to visit these guys to look at the front seat. They say that it wont be hard to do, cost will just depend on the time and effort but it was ranging from $300-$600 worst case. They will take all the cover off, re-shape it, get me to come and sit in it to test it, then put everything back..

Will have to consider this as if I can get away with around $400, then I might just do it.

What I would do to get my old MKV GTI seat back, but im affraid it will cost me heaps more by the time I match the leather/pattern with the current seats.

you need to make sure that the mk5 seats have airbags. removing SRS from a car is against the law and will not pass inspections.
