Hi Guys, trying to shop around to renew my MY12 Octy insurance but best I can find is 1000 with rating 1, good record, garaged etc. I know insurance depends on location as well :/

Has anyone found a company that will insure a turbo Octy for a much better deal? I assume it's the turbo that defaults the price so high....

Just baffling as I can get my Fiesta ST insured for 600 with similar companies which is was same price new, is a turbo sports car.

I just got my renewal from GIO for $1129 for $12875 agreed value on the 1.8tsi which I thought a bit of a joke. GIO are having a 20% off online promotion at the moment plus they take away the lazy tax so it came down to $770 inc car hire & windscreen cover. Then I went to Coles & they price beat by $100 so it came down to $670 inc hire car & windscreen.

I tried that compare the mearkats website & Woolies insurance came in around $650 but I'm not sure what their PDS was like. I didn't look further as a mate who like to read fineprint had already told me that Coles had a good PDS so I didn't look any further.

I'll what happens next year as insurance companies would rather reward new customers than existing customers.

As you said, location has a big affect. Sydney is always more expensive than MEL; ACT is always cheaper than MEL.

            Hi,
Just bought my first Octavia 2.0 TDI (2012) and got insured through AAMI. An online quote came as approx $850.00 but spoke direct with them as I already had my previous car insured with them and ended up a bit cheaper.

Sorry mine is not an RS. It's a standard Octy 1.4 Turbo. $27k new. Thanks for the tips will have a look at Allianz and Coles an Woolies.

AAMI who I'm with now does 2 year new for old which is nice and the car is only a year old. I wonder if I switch companies a new company will honor this if it's part of their dps as well...

NRMA were $650 for a 2010 RS with a couple of other policies. For some odd reason, they've always been the cheapest or near cheapest for this car and my 2004 XR6T, but not the non turbos I've had.

I am with AAMI for my RS with agreed value about $40k. About $850 or something
RACV for an A3. Neither can match the other for price.

SE melbourne. The $1000 is silly for a std Octy.

It is hard work shopping around, but make sure you are comparing the same excess and agreed/market value. Some online quotes default to a bigger excess which makes the quote initially look cheaper.

                    Good luck.

AAMI, MY13 VRS TSI agreed value of 40K - $680. I only claim (No Fault) 5 years ago but, had to pay excess as the Kangaroo would not pay up.

My AAMI quotes for my regular $26k Octy are basically double at no lower than 1100. Grrr. I'm 30, rating 1, no prev claims. Bloody hell.

The car is financed still. Is this the killer for me? I don't know how insurance companies generate their quotes....

The fact the car is financed will add somewhere between $50 and $100..

There is not much point comparing insurance, we were with AAMI with rating 1 for life no accidents ever and were near 1k. Same with my Santa Fe. We are with RACV now but its not a whole lot different. I check around each year and can come up with no explantion why a lot of people have much lower premiums apart from living location. We are in a dead safe middle class area in Melbournw with them locked up in a garage at home and both of us have secure locked up undercover parking at work.

Allianz I can never get, they are always a lot more and yet some people get much cheaper rates. But smash repairers and most car dealers swear by them. Budget, Coles etc are dodgy when it comes to an accident, unless you are in dire straits do not touch them. Even AAMI and RACV/NRMA get pretty poor feedback. A smash repairer near me told me one other that is good, but I can't recall who they were.

I have been with AAMI 25 years and live in an area with low crime rate, and the better half has a knack of squeezing the best deal out of AAMI each year.

                              Cheers Fred
