  • thinking about getting a 09/10 vRS diesel

    Hi Guys

I'm after a 2nd car and the Octavia 09 update has grabbed my attention and I have some Qs for the knowledgeable please.

What is the 09 vRS diesel like in terms of reliability? Same as the Golf 6? Are there Air con issues? I’ve read heaps and there’s not really anything jumping out. I’m looking at sub 60km so the DSG will be due for service soon and I assume anything out of normal should be evident as theoretically it is on original fluid.

Can we confirm if the update early 09 saw the new 2.0 CR diesel as found in the Golf 6? I really don’t want more PD injector pain in my life.

I will take a VCDS cable to inspections…

    thanks

Yep we only had CR engines in the RS here. They held off releasing the diesel until they did.

Only thinking about it? What is there to think about?
Air con, when on recirc, the fan strength is terrible, so leave it on fresh air and lovely cold air all the time. A few have commented on a flapper motor going on the passenger side, but fixed under warranty.
The CR diesel is the same one put in the GTD golf.
I get 5l/100 on a highway run or about 7l/100 around town. Not chipped.
The CR in the RS is remarkably quiet, inside the cabin you can often be fooled thinking it is a petrol.
for full engine and option codes, the sticker/plate is in the boot under the carpet.

If you have an android, try the following and decode the VIN of the car if you like.

PM Mysticality, he has a fair few kms on his diesel. Manual though.

I have a non RS diesel. What do you mean Air Con issues? If you want to know about it's strength, it's not as good as some other cars, but OK. The dual zone climate control is very nice. I wouldn't get a dark car again as it just adds to the load for the AC.

Shouldn't be any reliability issues as the diesel is well sorted and the DSG is the 6 speed one.

Thanks Guys, I refer to AC after the golf cost 2k to have the system replaced due to compressor internal self destruction. I must say it's AC was brilliant when it wasn't failed...

I'm thinking about it because our last small car (2005 golf) was a great car to use - best I've had, but it was the most unreliable car I've ever owned

After owning a few cars, I took a gamble on a Skoda rather than a VW as the reliability data backed that up. Although the satisfaction surveys do all come from the UK dealers which seem to be gods compared to what passes for Skoda dealers here at times.

If you truly didn't want a crap experience then get Mazda or a Honda. I've had more issues with my Skoda than any prior car, headlamps warped on delivery (fixed within days), PCV valve last year (fixed pretty quickly under goodwill) but they haven't been too bad. Overall I prefer it to my Mazda 6 which was the one I chose to dispose of as the Skoda was that much better.
