Can anyone tell me if the later model RS's came with an engine number starting with RR?
I know most have a CCZ prefix, but I have been told that the later models have an RR prefix... Not sure if this is true?
There will be a sticker on engine block, it's a pretty basic one so I don't know how it'll be after a couple of years. You can also get it via VCDS. Heres one I happened to take from my old Polo
Can't just tell us that and leave it hanging, what the hell happened to the original engine?
On a similar note, I have a vague recollection that finding the stamped engine number is a small nightmare....is that true? We may be selling our RS to family either in NSW or in QLD and from memory when I last did that they have to sight the engine number stamp itself.
There is not much to tell. Our 09 model car with ~40,000K on the clock failed to start one morning. Turns out it had "dropped" a valve. I'm not sure how or why etc, other than its broken and the dealer recommended a new engine. Luckily there was a new engine in Syd so we don't have to wait months for one to be shipped from CZ.
The new engine has an RR prefix. I have not seen the number, but the dealer has given it to me so I can make a start on filling out the paperwork.
The department of transport apparently need to see the number so I guess I'll find out just how much fun that is in the near future!
I had a very quick search and could not find a "RR" prefix. The closest I coud find was R4 16v TSI/TFSI EA888. xttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Volkswagen_Group_petrol_engines

... vRS. All new TSI and TDI engines ... The OctaviavRS features Bi-Xenon lights with AFS ...... Internal note: Elegance estate code RA4 (everything else is RA3).
I reached out to Guy Harding APR/Harding Performance on the thought that he knows more about VAG engines than anyone. He confirmed that the 3 letter prefix is normal but suggested that all replacement engines have a different prefix to show that they are "factory" rebuilt - This might be where the RR comes in?
He also said that its not possible for the dealer to install an incorrect spec so that assuages my concerns.
I was going to say that RR probably is code for refurb. Rough run though with a dead engine at such a young age and low kms. What's it going to end up costing?
Lets not confuse engine codes, engine numbers, and part numbers here.
Replacement engines aren't stamped with an engine number from the factory. QLD Police will issue one to the dealership, which does not include the engine code at the start of it, like a factory-fitted one would.
It'll be a long motor, which your dealership will swap CCZ-specific external parts over off the old engine onto, or order new if they were damaged during the failure.
In essence, your engine code stays the same, the part number of the long motor will be correct as it is VIN-specific, and may have an X at the end of the part number on the invoice meaning that it is a factory exchange engine, but your engine number will be different on your rego papers. It will be whatever number the dealership is told to stamp on it to ID for legal purposes.
Yeah the part above is the bit where I thought I have been told it's a pain to get to where the number from the factory is stamped on. Having a rebuild might mean they put it somewhere nicer.
Sounds like the RR will be a QLD generated number for the engine as the old factory one becomes redundant, the engine (part code) would remain the same.

Yeah, in most cases, it's usually stamped somewhere easier to get at than where the factory does it.
