Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • New 2014 RS colour choices and options list

    Hey all,

I have been trying to get info from dealers, and even Skoda / VW head office as to the options and colours for the New RS.

NO LUCK.... It seems like no one has any idea what will be available, let alone pricing etc...

Anyone else got any info on this topic?

How would you all like to spec out a new RS if / when you get a chance??

There's a few things we know...

Thanks to some sneaky shots we know that the AU RS will be available in Steel Grey, Race Blue & Candy White. Skoda Aus tends to have a much bigger colour selection than VWA too, the normal octavia is available in 9 colours here. We'll probably get the same colours as NZ but probably with just the solid Red instead of Rio Red also. You can see those colours in the NZ brochure here: http://www.skoda.co.nz/sitecollectio...ineng_0613.pdf

So here are the colours I think will be available
    Candy White uni
    Sprint Yellow special
    Corrida Red uni
    Steel Grey uni
    Brilliant Silver metallic
    Rally Green metallic
    Race Blue metallic
    Black Magic pearl effect

As for spec, the sneaky shots revealed that there is at least some kind of nav standard, but it looks like the tech pack will remain optional (there was no adaptive cruise control in the front grille). Since the RNS510 was standard in the last RS, I also assume the new one will get the 8" Discover Pro as seen in the new Elegance Octavias. The shots all have 18inch Pictoris alloys on them, so I'm guessing thats the standard wheel, hopefully with the option for Gemni Anthracite.

Personally, I want a Steel Grey Liftback DSG with Black Design Package, Gemni Anthracite, 8inch Nav and Canton Audio.

A french guy has made an awesome compilation of RS photos here, great for choosing the colour you want.

I reckon yellow and green wont be on the list. Neither are big "wants" in the car market.

Never thought I'd find myself liking green on a car, but looks good on the RS

They had yellow at the launch of the RS last time, but it went over time. We never got the green which actually might be more popular than the yellow. The Race blue which I have is probably the most popular of the 3 brighter colours and sold well. Pity its usually also in the rest of the range. The same blue is limited to special models usually in the rest of the VAG group.

Race blue may be less popular now considering you can get it on the normal Octavia now.

Also, apparently Moon White is exactly the same as Audi's glacier white and Steel Grey is meant to be a rejected R8 colour.

I really like the Primer Grey but wonder if it will still look fresh in 5 years time? eg: Candy White seems timeless if it is kept nice as does Corrida Red & Race Blue.

The green just reminds me of a Commodore SV6.

Silver - meh. Looks no different if the car hasn't been washed for a month or if you've just spent a day detailing it.

I love yellow / orange cars but if I wanted a yellow one & was thinking about resale I'd be more inclined to buy one of the popular colours (like Black) and get the whole car vinyl wrapped in yellow or orange. I think ultimately it's the better option because yellow is pretty unpopular when people have to plonk their money down (sure they say they like it but they don't want to own it).

Agree with Brad, the can you live with it factor Though, I had a bright metallic yellow Mazda SP23 and it wasn't too bad (got a ridiculous deal on it, so colour didn't matter).

I still like the Race Blue, but now with a child and a pram in and out... and a wife and mother in law who are not as considerate as myself... scuffs are showing up far too regularly. Might go for a lighter colour - eg Candy White next time around (any advice on wear and tear?).

I've found the blue holds up OK, doesn't look too bad dirty or clean. Its not too dark that white scratches show up too bad and not too light that dark scratches show. My mica black cars showed every minor scratch. I agree the green does remind me of an SV6, if Holden hadn't of done that I would think about it.

I tried to get a Candy white in my Santa fe but my wife wouldn't have a bar of it. It's on my list for the next car, the Race blue is as well (it was always available on the Mk2 in the lower specs) but would have to see what the blue looks like, from web pics it seems a little cheapish in the new model.

I like black but over the minor scratches showing up from miles away in the clearcoat. Stone chips show up more as well. I've never had an issue with a black car being hotter though, I think thats a bit of a red herring in the age of A/C.

Silver shows almost no dirt - Yellow holds up well too.

Always worried about fading with Yellows, the Mazda yellows in the 6 and the SP20s all faded. Reds still seem to do it as well depending on the pigment. Silver is good all around but oh so boring....

I've had a few red cars (too tight-arse to pay for metalic). Without a doubt the Skoda has held up a lot better than any other red cars but I've learnt about the difference between polish & wax since those cars & also park under-cover more these days so I'm not sure if it's better paint or better protection

I haven't seen any faded skoda yellows. this is looking at pre-fl mk2 and some mk1 pics.

but ur right....some manufacturer yellows look like they came out faded, or did actually fade!!!
