6mt clutch issues

Hey gents hoping to pick ur brains n get some opinions n experiences regarding clutch issues anyone has had.

I had a slow degradation of shift performance, in that it was a little grabby in and out of gears, and sometimes the car jolted slightly when putting it in first whilst stationary(very very slightly). After a couple days I was starting to wonder wat was up and whilst parking at work I had to force the car into reverse, after which the pedal failed to return all the way and I put an SOS into my local mechanic!!

Now we have spent about 3hours replacing the clutch mastercyclinder half of which was bleeding it, finally got good pressure and it was working well, backed the car off the ramp, left it idling while I thanked my mate for the 3hrs ot on his bday mind! Jumped on the car and we were back at square one! Somehow air is getting into the system but its not losing fluid. Next we are going to replace the bleed block with a billet one before we delve into the world of removed gearboxes and replacing slaves, clutched etc. car has 108k, 2.0t fsi

Take it to a specialist, sounds like old mate has no idea what his doing and just replacing parts, save money and get a proper diagnosis.

Try bleeding it again.

Failing that, put a slave cylinder in it.

Been bleed numerous times, from the top as well as pushing fluid in from the bleed to push the air upwards n out the master cylinder. Bite point has moved from middle/high to about a inch off the firewall which is also odd. We are just trying to eliminate the things we can before removing the gearbox. So far it has cost me a 4 pack of turkeys and a clutch master cylinder. Plus I have his xr8, I think I'm in front so far!!

Anyone ever had any issues with the donut shaped inline dampner thingmo on the left hand side of the firewall?

Ended up being the mainshaft in the gearbox and Ive done a few since . There is a way to strengthen the whole shaft and the bearing cup it sits in . You can bleed all you want , its not going to fix the issue !

Ok cool, something to look out for if n when we pull the box out! Did the main shaft need to be replaced or machined?

Hi there, thanks for your input on my clutch issue in the octavia forum. My mate isn't that familiar with vag stuff and neither are his normal parts guys as I have been helping them to find the parts for my car!! They don't seem to believe me that it is mechanically identical to a mkv gti, but anyway, that's sorted now!

Do you think I need a specialist or should I persist with my mate. He is a a good mechanic and knows alot of ****, just doesn't know alot about euros!!
