Hi , I just registered and are now a member of this great site. I posted this in the newbie forum but i think i need to repost it here.
Hey, only came across this site recently and love'in it. Can see myself spending alot of time on here. A little about myself before i ask the question i need some help on.
I Love cars, love cars, any sort, old muscle,rotaries,v8's,aussie, euro, anything with 4 wheels. Currently restoring a 69 GTS Monaro, have a big cammed VE HSV Senator, VT wagon thats seen better days and a few Vans for work(1 Hiace,1 Renault and a Vito). Am trying to get off the tools at work and do all the quoting and run the business but hasnt quite happened yet. The senator i have used when im quoting but since i have modified it, Its too loud and thirsty to drive everyday. Sadly i am about to advertise the car for sale and also get rid of the wagon. Hence the reason i have come here. I have 2 options. First option is a VF SV6 Sportwagon.(more sensible option as i know i wont end up modding it and is a good size).This is also the reason a SS Wagon is out of the equation. Ill end up doing mods and the fuel economy will kill me in the end.
Option 2: Skoda Vrs Wagon. I only stumbled across these cars recently.Was itially looking at the new Renault Magane GT wagon but boot space is too small. So i went down to Bentleigh a few days ago and took a demo Octavia RS wagon out. Loved the DSG with the paddles and am now leaning towards the Skoda over the commodore. The Commodore would be a better work car but its not all about work, isnt that right. I like my cars looking a little different and not seeing hundred on the road at the same time.
Now is my dilema. Do i buy what is basically left, old stock demos for about $35K or wait not too long hopefully and get the new model. I dont want to spend 50K but will spend low 40's. Was going to get a white wagon, but seeing pics of the blue, I love it, especially with dark tint, dark rims ect. I have driven only the dsg, so dont know how the manual goes. What are your opinions. Looking forward to the responses

as much as i'd like to see the new mk3 vRS hits out shores, i don't like the chances this side of christmas anymore.
neither has the oz specs for the new mk3 octavia range been released yet.

there r some good bargains/deals on 2nd-hand vRS models out there.
as for colors......blue and white r popular choices. u won't go wrong with either.

The mk.3 is expected to go up in price as it should be a much better spec'd car but you could also be waiting a while. You might even find a good second hand car has been taken care of better then a high km demo.

I don't know if it's expected to go up. We assume it will but with pricing pressures it may not. I've been told end of next yr by Skoda, but who knows, maybe they meant Dec and stuffed up. Either way you could well be waiting 6 mths or more. 35k is too much for old stock of an obsolete model. 30k for new or find a 2nd hand one under 25k. If you want new, wait it out as it will be worth it.

For the record I got a man sedan, blue, front sensors and sunroof for 36k and that was in their 2nd yr. I wouldn't be paying 35k for unwanted leftovers which is how the dealers must have been feeling this yr trying to sell year old stock due to delays bringing the new one here.

Thanks guys. The problem is there isnt really any stock out there at dealers. Everything seems to be white(which was my preferred color initially until i saw the blue on this forum). All have about 5000-10000km and are still asking 35K-38K. If i could trade my senator for a straight swap it would be a good deal as i want $35k if i sell it privately. Ill keep looking and see what comes up.
skoda in bentleigh have a fully optioned VRS wagon in white, black rims, dark tint and apparently all the options for 49K, reduced from 59K. How can a oktavia be optioned to $60K. Maybe getting this for low 40K might be a good deal as they will struggle to get rid of this car at that price.
Also, waiting 6 months is ok as im in no rush. I have been meaning to get rid of the senator for the last year and it just sits in the garage depreciating away.

$59k RS....lol.....you can get the fully optioned Superb 4 x 4 v6 for that. The driveaway pricing must really be working in Skodas favour. Before onroads a man hatch RS is 37k. The wagon was around 1.5k more and the DSG somewhere between 1.5k and 2k from memory.But again, that is external pricing, so add about 1k. So it would be just under 40k before the imaginary dealer delivery fees come in. The sat nav has been stock for yrs, and so that leaves Xenons and the optional leather., sunroofs and Front sensors. The cars come with leather stock, it just a matter of having vinyl where the alcantera and grippy stuff is at an extra cost to slide around. FPS should only be minimal

Any stock will be built earlier this year at the latest so will be MY13 stock or older. With them unable to order any of the Mk3 it will be slim pickings but what they do have they should be shoving out the door as it will be worth naught in a month or so. It's probably already costing them. Have a look at Richmond Skoda and see what piles they are sitting on as they tend to stockpile. It all depends if the RS comes out with the rest of the bunch at the same time. It (was) their biggest seller and the flagship so it has to be hurting the dealers not being able to sell many for months. You don't say what year the VE was, but depreciation kills on most local made cars so you might hit a crunch point there with it dropping a lot. I expect the Mk3 might not be over the top pricing, but they will have limited numbers (unless the wait was for stockpiling like they did in 2007 at launch) so the limited numbers might mean they won't deal much.

I got a new manual RS Occy Wagon with Leather and Sunroof (the last blue manual in Oz) last year for driveaway $41k. $59k is outrageous!!!

Try different dealers as they will all offer you different prices for the same car. I had quotes from the 2 Brisbane dealers (for the same car as I knew it was the last blue manual in Oz) and they were at least $2500 different.

There aren't many options for a rs so gettimg to 59k is ridiculous.lhave a look to see what peninsula skoda has lying around as well. Bentleigh skidsoda is 3km from.me but I went to Frankston for more range and better car knowledge.

Offer a ridiculous low price for the car you want. Worst that. An happen is they say no.

I have only come across DSG's as demos at the moment. Also springvale have a white demo wagon, 5000 km, DSG, carbon fibre for 34k driveaway,
seems to be the cheapest one so far by searching the net
ill be disappointed to jump at something like this only to find that the mk3 rs is only round the corner and around 40k
most dealers are saying mid next year for RS stock

Yep. When I was in the market for my MY11 vRS one Sydney dealer had been advertising a "demo" for about a year. The mileage just kept going up every month, but the price didn't shift all that much. I thought it pretty cheeky, because a car with 11500kms on the clock put there by dealership staff, and tyre kickers is no longer a demo. It's a used car that has had a procession of drivers through it, and not too far away from being up for its first service.

Perhaps full rec retail for a diesel, DSG, wagon, leather, MDI, sunroof, tow bar, privacy glass, front sensors, metallic paint, etc etc comes somewhere near $59k?...

I paid $44k(?) $42k? for a metallic paint [blue ], diesel wagon with no other options in Dec 2011 - July 2011 build (MY12 still)

Get the Mk2 - Mk3 will take way too long!


EDIT: Just checked out the vRS pricing for S's & G's... Wtf?? No manuals in the list?... And MY12??!!
Uhm - VW? Please double check the Skoda website occasionally...
