  • Octavia 90 TSI DRL

    Hi,

My 90TSI does not have any DRL which is a pity, both for safety and the new LED ones do look pretty good. Was thinking of either some LED Globes like these to replace the park globes or replace the blank driving light bumper inserts with the DRL set from SKODA or I saw these on ebay.

Any comments on which way I should go?

Can DRL be activated in my car and if so, only by Skoda or can I get it done elsewhere? and can the park lights be programmed to come on with the ignition as DRL or would I need to turn them on manually.

    Cheers

    Steve.

ive seem them on alibaba for cheaper, so please shop around before you buy.

as for programming them. I THINK (but not 100%) that they can be enabled. there is a thread about it. I think its cbay's thread.

don't bother asking skoda or vw to activate DRLs for u - they'll tell u it doesn't have the wiring and/or DRL bulbs.

get someone with vcds to activate it for u.

Hey SKF, I've gone as far as replacing the headlights and park lights with a Philips Blue Vision Ultra set of H7s and W5Ws.

Those drls with a direct panel replacement for the blank parts in the bumper is something I definitely want to go for in the future!

I was looking at saving up for these as i like the look of them http://www.powerbulbs.com/au/product...ning-light-kit

Thanks for the helpful replies folks - it's what I love about forum communities.
I would definitely shop around zei20t but had not heard of alibaba before.
i agree the direct replacement panels are the go but which ones??
I'm thinking for now of just replacing the park bulbs with an LED equivalent while I ponder the panel replacement option.
I'm pretty happy with the headlight globes at present they seem pretty white and bright.
i'd love to figure a way to have them come on as drl's though.
Those Osram drl's do look good cbay, I like how they are only one LED but the whole strip lights up, a bit like the tail lights of the current Kia Sorento and drl's of some Audi's, but cutting into the inserts scares me - not as brave as some. Would rather use the existing loom if it exists too.

Today is wash, clay bar and wax the new car day!!!
          cheers

Is something forum members do for each other, or are you talking about a mechanic? I have seen these cables but given the cost I would just as soon turn the lights on myself!!

              Welcome to the forum

I had a closer look at the direct replacement ones, they have a pattern in the dark plastic that i'm not so fond of. I hesitated with the LED park lights, and when I purchased some whiter globes they came with park lights so I installed those with some decent results. I'm still liking how they look on the car, not too white, but not too warm yellow either.

I do love that single-light look of the Osrams DRLs. Videos on youtube also seem show that they're not too white, so they would more closely match the colour temperature of the headlights i've currently got on. I'm not to keen on cutting through the inserts either. I'm also thinking that the inserts are angled facing too far outwards so the DRLS would have to sit quite sunken into the inserts.

Dying to get a good clay bar, wash and wax happening. Still got a bit of shine but could always be shinier!

Does anyone know if the park globes in a current Octavia can be activated as DRL's using the magic cable??
