  • Want to borrow - Car jack and stands

    Hey fellow Skodanians...

I was hoping to borrow a car jack and stands off someone that doesnt need them this weekend...??

Im going to dip my wheels and would prefer to take the wheels off the car instead of doing them on the car...

Let me know if anyone can help out...

PS: Im in melbourne... live in templestowe and work in cheltenham - will also be in the city thursday and friday

    Cheers,

    Daniel

I've dipped my wheels. I took them off 1 by 1 replacing them with the spare.

Just some tips (you might not need it, but still)
    - clean them properly with wheel cleaner (pref. Turtle Wax)
    - Dry them after you cleaned them
    - You'll need roughly a can per wheel to make it last and worth while
    - have 30/40 minutes break between each layer

      - have 30/40 minutes break between each layer - yep, not thick coats and alot of of them every 30min..

        You can borrow mine Dan.

Also, I used 2 cans for the set. Seemed to be thick Enough. was hard to pull off. An extra half a can for the set would be heaps imo and this was with stock wheels which are pretty wide spokes

I would advise against using anything with wax in it to clean them before dipping or it may affect adhesion. Either use an acid free wheel cleaner or a decent window cleaner like Maguires.

Of course, make sure they are dry but a good shot with compressed air after cleaning is a good help too.

Bugger the stands, just whack the spare on 1 and your best jack on the other. Just do 1 side at a time.

You don't really need to wait 30 minutes between coats either. Plasti dip reliquifies when another coat is applied anyway - this is why you put many thin coats on. 10 minutes is plenty.

I would also suggest sitting the cans in a bucket of warm water for a few minutes to artificially thin it a bit. The crappy nozzles clog easily and affect the spray quality. Clean it thoroughly between coats.

At the end of each coat, do a heavy lap where the tyre meets the rim. Then it should peel away easily. Masking the wheel will only increase the chance of peeling the rim.

          Anyway, that's my 2 cents...plus gst

I have a set of stands you can have for as long as you need. Pick them up from Chadstone, or I'm in Oakleigh all day tomorrow
