  • Antenna on RS wagon

    Hi,

I have seen some pictures of RS wagons on this site with an antenna on the roof. Mine has the 'black shark fin' but it doesn't have an antenna attached. Should it have one?

The shark fin is a combined GPS antenna and radio aerial - the GPS needs a horizontal antenna whereas radio needs closer to vertical

There is a vRS wagon that runs around Scoresby that has the shark fin with the whip radio aerial removed and it's been that way for 6 months or so. I figure that the radio must probably work fine without the whip part of the aerial installed.

Shark fins seem to have replaced radio aerials on most European cars anyway.

Anyone know how to take the vertical antenna off (mine has the stubby, 'rubber ducky' style not the longer whip)? I tried unscrewing it a while back, but didn't seem to do much - I didn't want to apply "unnecessary force". I'm thinking it could get in the way of things carried on the roof racks, so would be handy if it could be easily removed!

          Gents,

The OEM Superb 2 SharkFin antenna (sleek and gloss black) is a direct fit on the MK2 and FL Octavia and works. It comes in both GPS and Non-GPS versions. In the UK it is just over £70 which is approx Aus$115.

The Antenna is made up the following way:

GPS Puck in horizontally front of the fin.
          Bluetooth Antenna vertical in fin
Radio vertical touching the whip part of the shark fin. The whip can be removed (screws off) but radio signal will be degraded.

I have pictures of the inside layout of the FL Antenna if anyone wants them.

          Carl

Well it sounds to me like it should be there? I have noticed some static on the radio sometimes but I guess it could dependant on where I am at the time and perhaps not neccessarily the absence of the 'whip' antenna.
