  • Variable boot floor for Octavia?

I've been looking for something to replace my Forester XT for some time and keep finding myself coming back to the Octavia wagon - it just seems to tick the boxes better than anything else. One thing I don't like though, the low boot. I have read elsewhere about a variable boot floor that makes the boot level with the tailgate. Are these available for MK1 and 2? Does anyone have one?

      Variable boot floor for Octavia?

They certainly are, I have the raised floor fitted to my MY11 Octavia Scout. It was a couple of hundred Dollars factory option. Highly recommended.

I'm sure this is a very individual thing, but why would you want to make the boot smaller?

I get that the lip is a bit of a barrier but I have never thought I would like to lose space in my boot - and spend a few hundred dollars doing it.

When my wife and I were car shopping we looked at the Forester and turned away in about 1 minute due to its cheap plasticky interior and a boot that was too high for her to load prams, shopping and the like. Aside from that it just seemed small against anything else in its class. I think the practicality of the low load area is an advantage.

I don't think you will regret an Octavia wagon, particularly the boot - its bigger than a Commondore sportwagon without the bogan stigma!

Is more of an issue lifting heavier items, or for persons of smaller stature lifting things, from down so low. Coming from an XT - even a lowered one - the boot floor is probably 10-15cm lower in the Octavia.
Agree though, the octavia does seem to tick the boxes the XT (GT in my case) used to before it got americanised (wider, longer and heavier than before)

Thanks for the responses guys. For me, a boot's usefulness is in its width and depth, not height. How often do load your boot higher than the rear seats, let alone anywhere near the roof? I reckon I have maybe twice in 4 years. I regularly use my Forester (older XT, Ive looked at the newer model and it feels cheap and pregnant in comparison) with the rear seats folded down, the standard Octavia is functionally awkward in this situation. I see the variable floor as a few hunderd dollars that will greatly improve the functionality of the boot; the "reduced" boot size that results is a moot point.

              Variable boot floor for Octavia?

And of course you can use the space under the variable boot floor to conceal valuables. It's not like it's unusable space. Plus you can remove it completely in about 60 seconds on the rare occasion you need to maximise capacity.

It'd be nice to have so that you can slide things in past the rear seats. Would be really nice if the seats folded down flat and there was no lip at the boot edge. Also handy space under the floor for 'garage' items (tow rope, spare bulbs, tools, etc).

I see your point now Sukebe. After reading back my own post from earlier, it sounded like I was trying to 'have a go' at your for your decision, which was never my intention.

I did look at the variable boot floor on the net and while it serves no purpose for me, I can see its advantages. Unlike you I guess I rarely have back seats down for large items (I also have a child seat in there), but I do often chock the boot up quite high above the back seat so the low rear is good for me, but yes - the way the seats fold does not make it easy to do load long items through.

I would actually like to see a slider and bar system similar to the Audi wagons. Simple, removable and would be very handy for me with camera equipment on board.

just wanted to spam these old pics of mine:

not that i would expect anyone else to do it really, but there it is.....

I do seem to carry a lot of awkward stuff.... model aeroplanes of various shapes and sizes, my glider is 2.1m wingspan and the wing fits nicely through the 'ski slot' in the rear middle seat. EDF jets carried neatly wholly contained within the bootspace.

One practical consideration - We use greenbags for shopping (everyone should!) and when you hang them from the shopping bag hooks at each side they fit just nicely with the standard boot floor level. raising it up 3" would definately make those hooks less useful.

The slide bar system you mention is standard in the Superb but missing in the Octy. Not really sure why.
