  • 2011 rs tsi idle issue

Hi guys, not sure if this is the appropriate place to post so please bear with me.

I have a manual 2011 RS TSI With 26,000 k's. I have two issues which I have been getting the dreaded 'no fault found' response from my servicing dealer.

    1) The idle is intermittently rough/bumpy when stationary and brake pedal applied. Not sure if it is specifically an engine issue but you can feel the 'roughness' in the idle through the seat and steering wheel. The funny thing is that it immediately smooths out as soon as you release the brake pedal.

    2) Reversing or taking off when cold, I get a graunching sound as I slowly release (load) the clutch and accelerate. It disappears as soon as I have fully release the clutched and then stops happening altogether once the car has warmed up. It sounds like a dry, metal rubbing sound.

Apologies if the above isn't descriptive enough, but I'm hoping someone has had or experienced the same at some stage and can provide some feedback. Getting sick of leaving my car with Skoda. The faults are obviously there, but they seem to magically disappear for the period the car goes in for a service.

    Any help would be appreciated.

Have you driven the car with a service advisor inside it at the same time?

Haven't been able to make that happen yet. They never have someone available and have requested the car stay overnight for diagnosis.

Speaking to a different dealer tomorrow where I hope they can have someone available to sit with me.

I get the rough idle sometimes, but I put it down to the dogbone insert I have making it a little more rough.

the sound you're hearing with the clutch MAY be the thrust bearing getting dry.

2011 model would be under warranty. I've had to take my car back a few times for them to actually fix issues. maybe you just need to be persistent (yes I know its a time waster) but also insistent while you're there.

On the rough idle - does our VRS have a vacum assisted line to a brake booster on the brake master cylinder?
I would look into that for the rough idle (air leaks)

I had a similar problem to point 2 - was just the exhaust joint loose under the gear lever - once it got hot expansion made a tight seal

I get the noise in reverse, but mine s from the rear calipers not fully releasing after the handbrake is released.

Sorry to hijack the thread guys, but I'm getting a low frequency, sort of clunking sound from the manual gear box, mainly when taking off in first gear under a slight bit of load (like uphill or with extra passengers/weight in the car). Occasionally happens in 2nd also, but mainly in first gear. It's only a split second noise, not something that persists once the clutch is fully out and the car is fully in gear. Coming up for my 15k service so will be pointing it out to Skoda to take a look at but would appreciate any thoughts/suggestions on what it may be?
