  • RS 147 Wagon Pricing?

    Hi all,

Have been looking for a 147 RS wagon, and was told that Skoda are introducing a $40,990 drive away (standard features) campaign shortly (not including 0% finance)

I have been to 2 dealerships, and I couldn't stand dealing with either of them (Melbourne) They didn't know how to answer my questions, and their pricing didn't make sense... Why would I buy a demo for 36k, when I can get a new one for 40k?

What price is reasonable for a wagon with leather and xenons drive away?

Have any of you bought one recently? Does anyone have a contact with a sales manager in Melbourne that is good to deal with? Which dealership actually knows Skoda's inside and out?

    Cheers

I may well be wrong, but I suspect Richmond has been around the longest. They certainly knew more about the cars than anyone else I visited. I bought from Mentone, that then shifted to Zagame Brighton that is now at Southern Mitsubishi. I don't suspect they'd know much as of yet, but sometimes that is where the best price can be achieved.

I sourced my car through Stratton Finance about a year ago and the price I got then was better than what you are being offered now.

Granted, mine was standard with no price rising options and was in white so I didn't have to pay for mettalic paint. The price I paid was $40,655 on road. I would guess this would be even lower now.

They have good finance packages too. I don't have the number but I dealt with Michael Angus for our last 2 cars and he can negotiate with all dealers to get you the best price.

+1 for Richmond. They had an ad in Friday's Cars Guide offering a $7k factory bonus on 2012 plated cars with a RS sedan for $37888 driveaway, so $38k or less for a wagon should be possible with some haggling. Backdoc's suggestion about the new dealership at Southern Mitsubishi might also be worth looking at as they may look to offer good deals to establish a name for themselves in the market.

Geelong is the oldest in VIC and was a founding dealer. Incidentally much cheaper and better servicing there if you want to drive that way.

Richmond are the second oldest these days, they opened in 2008 but apart from Vito the service guy, noone else from those days seems to still be there and things are quite different.

In the late year onroads included promo, I got a raceblue man RS hatch in Oct 2008 with front parking sensors and sunroof for 36k and a very good trade in price. But those were GFC just hit times and dealers for any make had massive stocks that they were struggling to sell and the world was on pause.

As far as finding exactly what you want, you are down to what the dealers currently have in stock. No more RS will be made in the current shape for or shipped to Australia until the current batch are sold. And then it will be the new shape. If you want to specify exactly each option, you will be hard pressed, but you may be lucky. I had to get mine made as I wanted a TDI Manual wagon.

Peninsula Skoda still had one or 2 RS wagons last time I was down there, might be worth a call.

The current 0% campaign is for MY12 cars (manufactured b/n June 2011 and May 2012) That is at least a 12 month old car already. There may not even be any left in Australia in the RS.

I just bought a candy white petrol rs wagon with DSG and leather from Moorabin Barloworld. They have several other candy white models but I got the last one with leather, I paid $34k. Barloworld Glen Waverly had a few candy whites as well, if u want leather they only have a sliver one to choose from. They also had one TDI RS, not sure if it had leather but none had sunroof.

Forgot to mention that, these are all ex-demo/used vehicles but all had very low kms (mine had 1,600km).

I'm interested in the second hand rs wagon pricing, to me it seems some people are asking too much for rs's, well I guess you can ask what you want but whether you'll get it is another matter. I've seen a couple of 09's for around the 20k mark well under 100,000kms and they've been there a while while others seem to around the 25-28k mark for a 2010 model, seems a lot considering you can get a 2012 model demo with under 2000kms fro around 32k drive away, what do you guys think?

It's hard to say, friends of mine keep complaining about second hand ones going for high prices, and yes they do sell for that. It all depends what you want. Yes you can get a demo for XXX but does it have what you want? They are pretty scarce at times and new ones can take months to come in, so the availability is what keeps the prices up. I have a few people who have an eye on ours and keep asking when we are selling it and it's a late 2008!

Just get what works best for you, see if they can negotiate, but don't think they are dreaming with the pricing as those prices aren't too unrealistic. Once the 3 yr warranty is over you can expect them to fall a bit as well. The 2010s would still be covered whereas nearly half the 2009 cars would be expiring with the STD warranty by now. There was the inclusion of things like the Columbus that from memory would be in the 2010 but not most of the 2009 cars from memory as well, so apples aren't always apples.

A car is worth what people will pay for it. Regardless of what a Glass's guide says. If you cant find a 2010 for under 25-28, then that is what it is worth. There are a lot of people looking for a manual, or a wagon, or whatever, but most will say they cant find any second hand,.....for the amount they want to pay. Perhaps it is the buyers being unrealistic. If the seller is asking more than the buyer wants to pay, the buyer doesnt HAVE to buy it from them. If every seller 'seems' to be asking too much, then perhaps the buyer is being unrealistic as to what the market determines what a car is worth.

Many have commented on how much Skoda's depreciate, and then go off looking for a bargain. If there are none for sale for that bargain price, then the market has determined that perhaps the cars havent depreciated as much as expected. I remember when the BMW 135i coupe first came out, and you could sell the car second hand the day after you bought it, for 10k more. Because there werent any others around, and that is what people would pay at the time.

I wouldnt sell my RS for less than $50k, but that is because I dont want to sell it, and I wont get another one exactly as I ordered, with the extras I wanted, in the configuration I wanted. I dont care what others think it is worth. To me it is worth $50k, (even though I paid less than that for it).

Not fussed about options really but I'll keep an eye put for an 09/10 for around 20kish. One was listed on this forum last month at 22k with about 32000kms (sold), theres another in coffs harbour (for sale here too) for 19.5k and another in Perth for about 22k, they are all around what I'm looking just in the wrong state and I've done the interstate car purchase before and its a major PITA.
