  • Weekend of tinkering...

Couldn't find a "what have you done to your Octy today" thread so here's what I've done this weekend:
    • changed oil (last of the stockpile).
    • x-rotated tyres
    • washed wheels
    • fitted cheap ebay mudspats
    • fitted half a dogbone insert & made a retainer for it.
    • Fitted Koni Sport Dampers F&R (already had Eibach springs)

I've set the Konis to half a turn off soft rebound damping. Compression is fixed I believe.
The ride is fantastic. It's like having a new car (old dampers had 112,000km). No more pogoing at the front; no more sqishy oil nois driving out of my driveway. I'm in love again.
David & Margaret give it 4 out of 5 stars.

3-4hrs Thursday arvo after Dawn service & city marching for Anzac Day doing rear dampers, wheel clean & rotate & oil change. Being on a slope cost me some time.
About 45 mins Friday arvo for the engine mount insert (mainly fabricating a retainer).
3 hours for the front dampers & mudapats. A mate was going to come & help but I started early & was finished when he arrived, so we drank beer to celebrate & then rotated the tyres on his Koni equipped Polo 77tsi.

      Notes:
Despite what a lot of guides say, there is no need to remove the rear springs when changing rear dampers.

Despite what a lot of guides say, there is no need to remove the drive axles on the front. The trick is to disconnect both sway bar links & disconnect the lower control arm from the lower ball joint.
If you have stock springs then you need 2 people to slide the strut out of the hub knuckle. Lowered springs can be done with 1 person. Spring compressors are kind- of helpful but not really (ie: you compress the spring but the strut stays at full length because of the gas damper).

How come no one's ever seen Margaret and Brian Mannix in the same place at the same time?

Stuck on my Mk3 Octavia badges today.

Bit too shiny for my liking but whatever - Vive la Revolution!

You should have plastic dipped those badges (same as Lex)

I've removed my dog bone and finished my interia carbon wrapping
