  • Replacement Car Battery

The factory car battery has finally died (not holding charge) pretty good as its an '08

Can anyone recommend a good replacement brand or type?

BOSCH, Century Batteries. The BOSCH is my choice no1.

Yep, spend good money on a quality battery...no compromises, as it is a vital component that you want to work ALL the time properly.
Good brands will also have a replacement warranty too I think...
I never understand those who are tight with purchases of batteries....

Expensive, but if you buy one get the one that has the same Ah capacity as the one in your car. Otherwise it may not last.

There's a recent battery thread here where some options and prices are mentioned.

Every Battery stocks Varta & the price isn't overly shocking for the quality.

Ours is late 2008 (built april), it seems the odds are it will go soon. Is it worth being preemptive? Our 6 we just got RACV to replace it and was quite good and onsite.

Thanks everyone... Walked into a mechanic shop locally here that stocks Bosch. $230 later and he said see you in about 5-6 years depending on driving conditions.

Mine is 2007 build & appears to operate no differently to when I bought the car.

The Panasonic battery in my U13 Nissan lasted 8-9 years & only died because my wife turned the engine off & left the 130w lights on. She stood in the butcher shop & watched them go dim & wondered why the car wouldn't start

We generally have batteries last a long while when others with the same car don't so I would err on the side of it having lots of life yet. I've not seen any signs of it struggling. Any special tips needed to replace the Octavia's battery ie any codes needed for the audio system or the alarm?

If it were me, I'd get someone to test the battery's condition and proceed from there.

Yeah I was thinking about that. It would be nice if the Skoda dealers themselves had it as part of a time based servicing, not hard to do. Many years ago when I was a uni student places like Beaurepaires used to test free. Wonder if RACV have any deals like that, probably not as they have their own service these days.
