If you havent already done so, id scrap the wheel treatment idea (which is utter BS anyway) and spend the money on some low dust brake pads. Personally ill recommend the Remsa pads which are awesome - soo much less dust, affordable (about $240 for the full set) and they are brilliant.

i'm currently using older cheaper wax (meguiar's deep crystal) on my wheels, and regular cleaning - another cheap option if you've got time, works fairly well for me. Not sure how well the Nanolex treatment really works, the low dust brake pads sounds like a great idea though!

I think I'm either aiming for lightweight 17" or the pragmatist in me says stick with the 16" because I have to start teaching my daughter to drive in May (OMFGBBQ!) and lots of sidewall might be sensible.

Looks good difference in ride on the new rubber?

Honestly, Ithought it would be a lot harder in ride quality...but it is really great!
I guess it feels more like a scirocco R in ride feel...firm, yet comfortable and full of feel.
Great turn in on corners too with this rubbber!

Indeed. That's why I want her to be able to concentrate on driving & not worry about kerbing a wheel. She'll be nervous enough because she knows I love that car. Plus it's manual so she'll have her hands full.

Here's an idea:
In the for sale section is that Octavia that's had a nasty accident (right rear door missing)
Why don't you buy the spare (steel) and use your spare?
You mainly need two steel wheels on the front
Simple and cheap solution...

in fact any VW golf spare wheels from a wrecker...(try Camden GTI)
Just put on some cheap matching tyres, and it will look ok! Even spray them black from a spray can first...?

Something around 7kg is achievable without spending silly money.

As TeamV said, OZ & Enkei spring to mind but Rays & a few others are out there.

8kg widens the range right out to BBS, Sparco, etc. My old 17x8 BBS were 8kg

As an indicator, the 16x7.5 Audi rims I have at the moment are 10kg & that's about as heavy as I can stand.

Thanks, I've been trying to do some research on wheels lately. I figured throwing any old set of wheels on my 90tsi without thinking about individual wheel weight would negate anything that is good about it as it is right now - good fuel economy and sprightly (for a tiny engine) performance around town. Currently running 15x6.5...
