  • DSG Stalling?

On the weekend I reversed out of a parking spot (slight up hill and with the AC on full) and when I took my foot off the throttle to go on the brake the car stalled. First time in 3 1/2 years and 76,000km.

I've heard the 7 speed DSGs stall but not the 6 speeders behind the larger motors (mine a 2.0l diesel).

    Is this common?

    Thanks

mine has never stalled. only 16k on the clock and a little over 12 months old.

if it keeps happening, get it looked at. but I rekon you just caught it out.

does "hill hold assist" work in reverse?
i'm not sure i remember being in such situations to confirm, or deny.

it certainly helps the dsg in the forward direction, everytime.

I have no problems reversing up a hill.

I brake with the left foot and use the throttle till I feel the car move and let the brake off. no chance of stalling.

        or use the handbrake

Would it be time for a service? Injector clean etc

That has an impact on fuel economy and you won't see the real (low down) pulling power of your desiel

I seem to remember reading in the manual that it doesn't work in reverse - not sure why

I've had a few stalls, but none since the latest DSG software (upgraded in Nov).

                Sounds common in reverse then.

Just had the 75k service a few weeks ago and they said they updated the DSG software - who knows whether they actually did it though.

My Ocy doesn't have a hill holder function so ditto there - probably a pre FL thing.

I also left foot brake in the Ocy but it made no difference with the stalling.

I know what you mean about reversing up hills with the DSG. Our driveway is reasonably steep and when the car is cold it doesn't like reversing up the driveway - just rides the clutch (at approx 1,500rpm) and moves slowly. Once the car is warm though (even if left to idle for a minute when 1st started when cold) it idles up the driveway no worries.

                Thanks all

Ok - I'll ignore my experience with an X5 and 520d that have standard ZF gearboxes.

With good reason too, you won't get a lovely ZF transmission on a much lower priced and lower class FWD car!

My Kia with the R2.2 CRDi was BEAUTIFUL... The 6spd w/ torque converter, however, was not... MUCH prefer my steaming lump of torque with a side of clutch!

EDIT: I have hill hold assist on both forwards and reverse. Its nice - although the majority of the time, more annoying than useful.
