Best place to get light bulbs

My wife just told me that our pre FL RS has a blown rear globe warning pop up. To be honest we tend to own cars for 6-8 yrs and I haven't had to replace a bulb in any car since my old first car!

Wheres the best place to grab one locally? I can order online if it won't take too long, but as it seems to be the rear brake light it would be best to get onto it quickly.

I figured when I bought this car that I would see some globe replacements solely due to the auto headlights turning on and off a lot.

Just stop by any RepCo shop - pull the old one and walk into the shop

Rear bulbs are pretty generic afaik just your local car parts store will do. If you want to upgrade try Powerbulbs on the net. Headlights are a different story.

Repco was my first go to, just wasn't sure if things had changed...as I said its been probably 12 or more yrs since I've had to do it....at one stage my local dealer would have just done it free of charge if I dropped by, but the way things are, most likely not I would imagine.

repco, supercrap auto or any garage/workshop should have what you need.

as mentioned, bulbs are generic and should only be a few dollars each

No way would I go to a local store.
I'd buy off the Internet, save 3 cents and wait a week for the parts to arrive all the while driving an unroadworthy car.

Thats how I feel every time I go to Repco.

All of the bulbs in the Octavia are standardised.
Walk into the shop with the old, dead one and say "I want one of these" and they'll sell you one!

Yep bulbs is bulbs. Car manufacturers do not make bulbs. Light bulb manufacturers do and they are all fittings that comply to international standards.
This may change a bit with LED tail lights becoming common (if not standard in a few years). With the so called reliability of them you may suddenly find that you have to buy a whole sealed tail light assembly when the time comes to replace failed LEDs. Has anybody ever been able to successfully buy an individual LED for a high mount stop light from an auto accessory store or even a car manufacturer?

No but never had any LED lights fail. I'm about to describe something a tad odd, but here goes. The light cover in the hatchback has a small dial you turn and then you can feel its free. BUT, there appears to be two parts above and below it, that are either stuck with glue, very tough velcro....or from what I can determine the panel there isn't perforated the entire way through....so there are two bits that are still attached, that I assume you get a stanley knife and snip through the first time you open it. Before I do that, I just want to check I'm right as I only looked at it tonight and the Skoda dealers aren't open to quickly check with. Like all good things Skoda, not all is ever quite what it seems. If anyone has replaced one before, you will know what I'm talking about...if not, go take a look and tell me if you find the same thing.....so bizarre.....I'm guessing they put the light assembly in bulbs and all....and then put this virgin interior in that I have to violate....

In the wagon, you remove a trim panel (piece of felt - not really a panel) then unplug and remove a little plastic board with the 4 big bulbs on it. (Brake/Ind/Rev/Fog)
The remaining two parkers on the outside are just T10 (W5W) and pull out of their little holes.
Post pics!... That sounds like a really strange design!

One would assume you can 'crack open' an LED taillight housing, pull it to bits and solder on a new LED... Thats what I did to the interior of my Rio. Changed the bland and boring orange dash lights to blue.
Considering the same mod to the Octy... Stay tuned.

It's the felt part I'm meaning, it has slotted perforations where I guess it bends and the indented part which is where the latch is seems to be attached still in two spots. It could be to discourage people changing them, but still weird. I can't find any reference to it anywhere so wondering if its a fault I've found just in mine.

Mine aren't actually locked in with anything... They're just sorta, well... Sitting there.
Bend them out and they come out fine.

Checked out a friends rs of the same vintage and his was fine. Seems my trim missed some qc. I cut it carefully today, the main wires were right there which made it tricky, but job done.

ok this was the same with me

on the latch side, get a small knife and slice the join. its as easy as that!

the latches will keep the flap closed.

Yep except the main wiring bundle was sitting up against the flap right where one the joins was....was like doing keyhole surgery!

I've left the passenger one untouched.
