Anyone added MFSW to Manual Octavia in Oz?

Just wondering if anyone on this forum has done the changeover and put a multi function steering wheel on a Manual Octavia? Particularly an RS?

It is mentioned a bit over on briskoda, but I am curious as to how many have done it in Oz.

Can't recall ever reading about anybody doing one. If was easy and not too expensive I would probably consider doing it. The radio volume control on the left side is a pain IMO

However be aware that most of the Tig owners are changing from a MFSW to one with flappy paddles. We already have the control module (MFSWCM) to go with it. If you don't already have a multi-function wheel then I'd be checking what control module you have and you may need to upgrade this also.

Check around as some of the sites that sell steering wheels will also sell the control modules also. Or if you're lucky you may be able to pick up an old steering wheel from a Tig owner who has updated to a flappy paddle wheel. I sold mine tosomeone with a Mk5 Golf who was looking to do a similar upgrade.

If you can buy the airbag with the wheel you'll save yourself a LOT of hassles trying to work out which airbag is going to fit.

I am looking to do this upgrade, been holding out to find a new control module locally but they don't come up very often. Probably end up just getting all new from here:

Parts needed are:
*MFSW (whichever version takes your fancy)
*Highline Steering Control Module 5k0 953 569H (check compatibility with your vehicle first - this is the current highline module for later model octavia amoungst others as far as I can tell)
*MFSW wiring harness

Will need access to vcds to code it once you've installed the hardware.

Will be around $AU500 delivered for everything required. I checked the module on mine (MY13 147tsi Manual) and is 5k0 953 549C so will need to be changed for the highline version to be functional.

It's lucky you got that, most pics I've seen on the web had no mfsw. I tried to get it optioned from the factory and the dealer "looked into it" and said no go.

I will go skodateile as well and they have advised what I need, MFSW, wiring harness and controller. About AUD470 plus del. This is all good. The main thing I am interested in, is doing the vcds once it is all installed.

I have spoken to the dealer as well, and you definitely cant get MFSW on a manual RS in Australia or the UK. It is only available on a DSG.

Skodateile have advised that for the correct controller to be sent I need to supply chassis number of the car. They have been really good from the initial dealings I have had with them, and most people on briskoda have said they are good to deal with as well. This is all fine, except my car is still being built. I will have to wait until I get the correct info before placing the order. I would like to have everything all ready to go when I finally get my hands on the car.

My mechanic who specialises in VAG cars will do the swap with no dramas, but it would be nice to know what others experiences were like, and what code settings were used to get it all to work.

Is the factory still building current shape vehicles? I assumed that they would be only doing the new one now but I guess the new wagon hasn't been released officially.

As far as your dealings with the supplier surely if you tell them that your vehicle is currently in production they will know what parts are required? The reason they want chassis numbers is to ensure that they supply parts in the correct series for factory build changes.

If your Skoda dealer is any good they may be able to supply you with the chassis number well in advance of the vehicle arriving. They certainly get access to the VIN when the car goes into production and the whole process is very automated so I would assume that the chassis number would be available as soon as an actual chassis has been allocated to the vehicle.

AFAIK, and from looking at briskoda, its a matter of installing it, and then coding for MFSW. assuming you have the correct controller. a quick scan will give you the result of that.

1.8TSI Elegance - std equip. It was only the vRS that they dumbed down & I can't see any reason beyond price cutting to do so.

I guess they would have had to make another steering wheel variant, but had to do the paddle shift for the DSGs to compete with VW. Then again the man RS steering wheel was it's own variant.....weirdest thing ever really. It was the only negative when I bought mine years back, and to be honest I hadn't noticed until pickup.

They do make the variant steering wheels and controllers, without the paddle shifts. That is what you buy form skodateile.cz. Has the RS badge, you can even opt for red stitching, or smooth leather instead of perforated. It is crazy as the paddles are an optional extra for the DSG anyway.

MFSW should be standard across the range, manual or DSG.

Been emailing Ales at skodateile.cz, has recommended for my car to get the 5kO 953 549 B steering control module. He said the 5kO 953 569 H is not compatible, from other sources they just list the 569 H version as replacement for 549 B.

The 5kO 953 549 B is listed as the highline version on rosstech wiki so should work, it is cheaper too so that's a bonus.

Anyone interested in my original wheel? It is the red stitch/perforated leather non mfsw style approx 2 months old, assuming everything works after the upgrade that is!
