  • Be wary of 60,000 service cost

My Manual Diesel RS recently had its service at my local VW dealership. At the time of booking it in, the dealer was told it was a manual & a diesel, yet he initially quoted my the DSG service cost. Once I corrected him, he gave me the much better price.

On arrival at the dealership, the job card was still for an auto/petrol Octavia, which I noticed when the asked me to initial the price. Again I pointed out that I have a manual/diesel car (which was on the vehicle details section of the card) and I would not sign for a quoted DSG price. After some huffing the correct job car was prepared, which I happily approved.

The 60,000 service for a manual Octavia should be about $800, the cost for a DSG car is about $1300. It's a nice little earner for the dealership if the customer pays no attention.

I mentioned I had a diesel in the post, as the work completed summary recorded that the spark plugs were changed! At least they didn't charge me for them.

Sounds like you had a similar experience to my friend who was charged a maintenance fee on his sunroof when Audi serviced his A5. thing is he has no sunroof...

Took my vRS diesel manual into a VW specialist dealer rather than a franchise dealer for its 60,000km service and it cost less than $400 including a loan car and a really good wash.

I just done the 45,000 km service on mine cost $70 for oil and $22 for a filter and I know the job was done properly not by a spotty faced apprentice.

But did you replace the air filter as per the schedule?

And this is why I never take my VW or Skoda to a VW dealership for servicing. It's just a license to print money. Jmac is the man for all your servicing needs!!!

That would be great if Jmac were in NSW, I'm leaning towards local independents. My local dealer service centre just closed.
